This is a senior position within the Underwriting Centre and has the following main purposes:
Accountability for the full profit and loss of a set of brokers and the delivery of the PRS Strategic Goals in respect of Service, Underwriting & Broker Management.
Management of a team of Senior Underwriters/Underwriters (circa 7/8 reports) incorporating Performance Management & Personal Career Development
To underwrite & be a key referral point for a number of large and complex, new and existing business accounts whilst providing world class service to our broker partners.
You will be required to coach Senior Underwriters /Technical Account Managers and Underwriters to ensure the consistent delivery of World Class Service and Underwriting Integrity.
You will be required to consistently monitor, manage & structure the team to maintain the consistent delivery of World Class Service.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage performance across a team of 7/8 Senior Underwriters/Underwriters through monthly one to ones , quarterly appraisals and ongoing coaching.
Ensure all areas of underperformance are managed consistently, with clear development plans structured in place following consultation with the EUZ UW Centre Manager & HR
Drive team disciplines, morale and consistent team collaboration through daily management of Service & Underwriting
Influence and drive activity to achieve agreed financial targets and proactively manage superior relationships with broker partners
Demonstrate an excellent level of competence in the use of management information systems to be able to understand the data and analyse any trends. Ensure consistent monthly reporting against all KPIs, together with activities to drive opportunity and address underperformance
Monthly management of team performance incorporating monthly P&L & Service reporting to the EUZ Management Team
Drive forward quarterly Broker Management in line with the EUZ Broker Management Strategy with collaboration with the Sales Team & EUZ Management Team.
Collaboration with the Technical AM & EUZ UW Centre Manager with regards to referral coaching, training requirements/development.
Be a technical underwriting referral point for Senior Underwriters, Underwriters, Underwriting Assistants and Claims.
Ensure all team members seek to round out existing accounts and cross-sell other classes of business and promote a sales culture within the team for all new business and renewal transactions
To be an integral part of the Audit team for PRS and to work alongside other Account Managers & UKI & EUZ UW Managers in implementing the PRS Audit Plan
To drive the call coaching strategy on your team to develop soft skills, and to ensure that all audit feedback is cascaded down and any trends are tracked and managed accordingly in line with UW Goals
To have a constructive and collaborative relationship with all aspects of PRS and to seek new relationships/opportunities across all departments.
Skills & Experience Required:
Must have the aptitude to work in a highly competitive market, be innovative in business production and retention; be able to adapt to changing markets and internal requirements.
As Team Manager must be collaborative, consultative, disciplined with high standards and ethics to ensure that they can drive a team to perform at a World Class Level. Be proactive, find solutions from challenges and be a role model for their team and for the wider department. Able to demonstrate confidence in managing under performance and to be able to link their actions & disciplines consistently to the needs of the business.
Understand the financials and margins of the business as well ways to influence these to achieve agreed targets.
Display strong evidence of building effective relationships with brokers and colleagues. Strive to provide service levels that exceed industry standards and demonstrate leadership across all functional areas. An exceptional communicator with excellent telephone technique and negotiation skills.
Confident to present Masterpiece Signature, Masterpiece and Masterpiece Initial both internally and externally. Comfortable in a technical underwriting & management role whilst managing of team of underwriters. Excellent organisational skills and discipline and to ensure that all direct reports strive to work to the same work ethic. Ability to adopt their management style where required to get the best out of an individual and/or situation. Demonstrate increased ability for creative thinking and problem solving.
Experience
Deep expertise of HNW Underwriting with both Motor & Household at a Senior Underwriting Level.
Previous Management experience desired but not required
Strong leadership skills and able to demonstrate this with clear examples
Comfortable operating in a sales/target driven environment
* ACII or working towards CIP exams
