For the Etihad Rail project that means delivering a new 650km freight rail network across the United Arab Emirates from the Saudi Arabian border to the Indian Ocean, connecting major industrial ports and economic hubs across the way and redefine logistics and transport in the region, providing a modern, safe, efficient and sustainable network. This is a transformational project for the United Arab Emirates and the wider gulf region, providing a transportation backbone for freight and passengers as part of the UAE’s strategic growth plan. You'll take ownership and act as the Rail Operations subject matter expert in multi-disciplinary rail infrastructure design teams, acting as a link into the operational railway. Activities include:
  • Articulation of end-user requirements
  • Identification of cost-effective, whole system solutions to Client problem statements
  • Assurance of designs solutions from an operational and end-user perspective
  • Management of relationships with the client organisation, TOCs and FOCs
  • Specification of operations capacity and performance modelling exercises
  • Support colleagues in other lines of business (e.g., Transport Planning, Strategic Consulting, Cities & Places) by acting as rail industry expert and reaching back into Transportation for technical support as required.
You will have a comprehensive understanding of the role which rail can play in the delivery of broader strategic outputs such as economic regeneration, social mobility and “levelling up” alongside understanding of railway and train operating principles and how they can contribute to the development of effective, cost-efficient design solutions. You will be able to utilize your understanding of rail industry organisational structures, train planning principles. You will be knowledgeable on rail industry funding and commercial, project management principles. Here’s What You’ll Need:
As a successful candidate you will have a Bachelors degree (or higher) in an engineering discipline. You are a highly motivated rail operations professional with at least 15 years’ recent experience working for a Train or Freight Operating Company. A significant part of your career will have been in roles with direct responsibility for delivering train services. Your practical experience is balanced by a sound grasp of the strategic principles which underpin the delivery of safe and efficient railway operations. Membership of the Institution of Railway Operators or equivalent experience. Experience in light rail and / or high-speed rail is desirable but not essential. Understanding and application of Lean principles is desirable but not essential. You will be unafraid to challenge the unacceptable every time especially in matters of safety, diversity and inclusivity and personal behaviours. Jacobs. A world where you can.
