The Quantity Surveyor / Estimation Engineer is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, analyzing project specifications and drawings, evaluating supplier and subcontractor quotations, and supporting the tendering and procurement processes. The role ensures that projects are delivered within budget and in compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:Cost Estimation & Tendering
Review project drawings, specifications, and BOQs to prepare detailed cost estimates for civil, structural, architectural, and MEP works.
Prepare and submit competitive tender bids including preambles, methodology, and pricing schedules.
Liaise with procurement to obtain material and subcontractor quotations.
Analyze and compare received quotations to ensure the most competitive and technically compliant pricing is selected.
Budgeting & Cost Control
Assist in preparing project budgets and cost plans.
Support the planning team with cost data for budgeting and forecasting.
Monitor actual project costs against estimated figures and flag variances.
Procurement Support
Prepare procurement packages and assist in evaluating supplier/subcontractor proposals.
Negotiate with vendors and subcontractors to secure best prices and terms.
Contract & Documentation
Prepare and maintain tender documentation, cost breakdowns, and rate analyses.
Support contract administration by advising on contractual risks and variations.
Assist in preparing change orders and cost implications of variations.
Coordination & Reporting
Coordinate with design, planning, and execution teams to ensure estimates reflect project requirements.
Provide regular updates and reports on estimation progress and tender status to management.
Attend site visits, pre-bid meetings, and client presentations when necessary.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
Minimum 5-7 years of experience in quantity surveying and cost estimation within the construction industry (preferably buildings, villas, infrastructure, or fit-out depending on role).
Skills & Competencies:
Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and pricing.
Proficiency in estimation and quantity take-off software.
High attention to detail and analytical thinking.
Strong negotiation and communication skills.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Knowledge of local market rates and suppliers (especially for UAE/GCC roles).
Preferred Certifications:
MRICS / RICS (preferred but not mandatory)
PMP or similar project management certifications (a plus)
