Quality Control (QC) Manager - Hands-On Laboratory Role

About the Role

This is a

hands-on QC Manager position

suitable for a professional who can lead the QC department and personally perform analytical and microbiological testing.

Responsibilities cover powders, liquids, injectables, disinfectants, and supplement products under WHO GMP, requirements.

Key Responsibilities Management Responsibilities

Lead QC daily operations for all production lines Approve test results, COAs, and batch-release documentation Maintain compliance with GMP, ISO 17025, ALCOA+ data integrity, and internal SOPs Manage lab equipment calibration, verification, and qualification Handle OOS (Out-of-Specification), OOT (Out-of-Trend), deviations, CAPAs, and change control Support QA during internal/external audits Supervise, train, and develop QC team members Review and maintain QC SOPs, test methods, and analytical procedures Participate in new product development and test method validation Ensure laboratory safety and proper waste management
Hands-On Testing Responsibilities

The QC Manager must personally perform critical testing, including:

Analytical Chemistry:

HPLC analysis (potency, assay, impurities) UV-Vis spectrophotometry Supervise Titrimetric analysis (acid-base, redox, complexometric) Supervise Wet chemistry (pH, specific gravity, viscosity, moisture, ash)

Supervise Microbiological Testing:

Total Viable Count (TVC) Yeast & mold counts Coliforms detection where applicable Sterility testing for injectables

Supervise Water Quality Testing:

RO, EDI, and purified water parameters Chemical and microbiological specifications

Supervise Environmental Monitoring:

Settle plates Surface swabs Air sampling and monitoring
Required Qualifications - Education

Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or related scientific field Master's degree is preferred
Experience

Minimum

5-10 years

of experience in pharmaceutical QC laboratory At least

3 years

in a supervisory or QC leadership role

Hands-on experience

performing HPLC, UV-Vis, titrations, and microbiological testing Knowledge of multiple dosage forms: injectables, oral solutions, powders, disinfectants
Technical Expertise

Must Have:

Advanced proficiency in HPLC operation, method development, and troubleshooting Strong hands-on skills in UV-Vis spectroscopy and wet chemistry methods Practical experience in pharmaceutical microbiology and aseptic techniques Ability to perform routine calibration and maintenance of analytical instruments Proficient in data analysis and interpretation

Regulatory & Quality Systems:

Knowledge of

requirements Experience with pharmacopeias (USP, BP, EP) Familiarity with stability testing protocols and specifications Knowledge of OOS/OOT investigations and root cause analysis
