Job Summary

The Purchasing Engineer is responsible for the direct sourcing of materials from the approved supply base. Purchase Engineer is accountable for ensuring that all materials are procured and delivered to the factory in line with the operational strategy in effect. The Purchasing Engineer also works to achieve cost savings, improve inventory turnover (ITO), and enhance service levels. Additionally, they represent the interests of the Manufacturing facility at the Supplier.



Manage the procurement process from requisition to receipt of goods, including issuing purchase orders, tracking supplier performance, and ensuring adherence to Fisher procedures and trade compliance regulations. Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers through regular communication, performance evaluations, and collaborative problem-solving. Facilitate regular conference calls to foster open communication and address any concerns. Analyze procurement costs and identify opportunities for cost reduction. Collaborate effectively with other departments, such as Engineering and Planning, to ensure that material requirements are met in a timely and efficient manner. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all procurement activities.

Job Responsibilities

Quality Assurance:
  • Applies procedures outlined in the QA Manual to ensure the final product meets all specifications.
  • Verifies that the final product aligns with the write-up before completion.
Procurement:
  • Sends RFQs (Request for Quotations) to approved suppliers according to global guidelines when the system indicates the need to activate a part in Oracle.
  • Executes purchase orders for both external suppliers and Inter-co (internal) entities, including updates, reschedules, and date management in Oracle as per given guidelines.
  • Places purchase orders promptly upon identifying the need to provide full visibility to suppliers.
  • Prioritizes factory needs when requesting purchase orders, considering the best lead times offered by suppliers.
  • Communicates periodic performance reports to key suppliers and facilitates regular conference calls.
  • Clearly conveys business needs and requests to suppliers, influencing and motivating them to support set objectives.
  • Conducts weekly milestone reviews with suppliers, updating the system with late deliveries and reschedules.
  • Reviews and updates parameters of assigned parts, including lead times, safety stocks, and suppliers, within a given timeline.
  • Regularly expedites orders to ensure on-time delivery per business needs.
  • Conducts purchasing activities in alignment with inventory management goals and strategies.
  • Administers proper terms and conditions and ensures compliance with Fisher procedures and trade compliance for new supplier onboarding.
  • Maintains a competitive and technically competent supply base to meet quality, delivery, service, and cost objectives.
  • Oversees external machining process items.
  • Handles any other duties assigned by management.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor\'s degree in engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in procurement, sourcing, or supply chain management.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of quality assurance principles and procurement guidelines.
  • Knowledge in casting, machining, valve components, and handling shipments.
  • Proficiency in international trade regulations and customs procedures
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Oracle ERP systems.
  • Experience in generating performance reports and facilitating conference calls.
