The Pharmacy Technician looks after the day to day work of the Pharmacy as per the department schedule and is responsible for ensuring the safe, appropriate, cost effective use of medicines, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. She/he will work collaboratively with other health care professionals. She/he complies with the department of pharmacy's code of conduct.

Essential Job functions and Key Accountabilities:

1.

Ensure compliance with all current departmental policies and procedures.

2.

Interpretation of physicians' orders, checking, verifying, compounding and dispensing medicines.

3.

Identify the patients correctly to ensure the 5 rights (patient, drug, route, time and dose), counsel patients on the effects, dosage and route of administration of their drug treatments.

4.

Maintain effective communication with patients and their relatives. Ensuring medication reaches the patient in the correct form and dose - which include tablet, capsule, ointment, injection, inhalers, cream and syrup.

5.

Responds to medication related queries from within the hospital, patients and their relatives.

6.

Getting medication approvals from various insurance companies.

7.

Checking the medicines shortage regularly and requesting for re-order, also regular monitoring of the short expiry medicines, stock need to rotate properly for effective use of near expiry drugs and also check the supply from stores and enters inventory data into the computer system. Inventory auditing as per hospital policy.

Ensures medicines are stored appropriately, securely to maintain freshness and potency.

Ensures to keep the department is secure, clean and neat always

. Answer telephone calls responding to questions or requests.

11.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Pharmacist/Team Leader during the chief pharmacist absence.

Clinical/Technical Competencies:

1. Product distribution; dispensing medication with ethics and professionalism- practice within the legal requirement and upholding the ethical principle.

2. Compounding sterile and non- sterile product according to the recognized guidelines and standard of practice.

3. Safe and effective patient care in partnership with the patient and in collaboration with other health professionals, meet the patient's health and drug-related needs to achieve the patient's health goals.

4. Communication- maintains effective and consistent communication system.

5. Quality & safety- pharmacovigilance program to ensure quality, safety and integrity of product, create a culture of patient safety.

Qualification

Diploma in Pharmacy


Fluent in English and Arabic
