Job Purpose

The Pattern Cutter is responsible for translating design concepts into accurate patterns that ensure proper fit, construction, and quality. This role works closely with designers, manages sample machinists and production teams to develop patterns from first prototype through final production.

Key Responsibilities

Interpret design sketches, technical drawings, and specifications to create accurate patterns Draft, develop, and modify patterns manually Create first patterns, toile patterns, and production-ready patterns Ensure correct fit, balance, and proportions across all garment sizes Conduct fittings and apply necessary pattern adjustments Collaborate closely with designers and sample machinists during the sampling process Prepare grading rules and size sets for production Ensure patterns align with fabric characteristics and construction methods Maintain organized pattern libraries and documentation Support production teams with technical advice and problem-solving Ensuring all fabrics are organised and the studio space is work efficient

Required Skills & Competencies

Strong understanding of garment construction and sewing techniques Excellent knowledge of pattern cutting for woven and/or stretch fabrics High attention to detail and accuracy Highly organised and takes pride in their work space Ability to translate creative designs into technically sound patterns Strong problem-solving and fit-analysis skills Ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple styles simultaneously Good communication and collaboration skills

Qualifications & Experience

Degree or diploma in Fashion Design, Pattern Cutting, or Garment Technology (preferred) Minimum 3 years of experience as a Pattern Cutter (luxury/RTW/bridal experience a plus) Experience working with both manual and digital pattern cutting methods Knowledge of grading and production processes is a must

Tools & Software (Preferred)

CAD pattern cutting software (e.g., Gerber, Lectra, Optitex, or similar) Manual pattern cutting tools Strong understanding of size charts and fit standards
