Job Description

The MEP Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing works across commercial, residential, and industrial projects. The role involves reviewing drawings, specifications, and tender documents, performing take-offs, analyzing costs, and coordinating with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive and precise pricing.

Key Responsibilities

Estimation & Costing

Analyze tender documents, project drawings, specifications, and bill of quantities (BOQ) to prepare competitive MEP estimates. Perform detailed quantity take-offs for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Evaluate material, labor, and equipment requirements to prepare accurate cost breakdowns. Prepare and update cost databases, unit rates, and pricing benchmarks. Develop value engineering proposals to optimize project cost without compromising quality.

Technical Review

Identify discrepancies, risks, and opportunities within the project documents. Coordinate with design and engineering teams for clarification on technical queries. Review subcontractor and supplier quotations for accuracy and compliance with project requirements.

Coordination & Communication

Liaise with suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations. Collaborate with internal departments such as engineering, procurement, and project management for input into estimates. Participate in pre-tender meetings, site visits, and technical discussions as required.

Documentation & Reporting

Prepare tender summaries, cost comparison sheets, and final bid submissions. Maintain organized records of pricing, correspondence, and estimation files. Assist in handover of awarded projects to the project team with clear documentation.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or related field. Minimum 3-10 years of experience as an MEP Estimator in construction, contracting, or consultancy. Strong understanding of MEP systems (HVAC, Fire Fighting, ELV, Electrical, Plumbing, Drainage). Proficient in AutoCAD, estimation software, quantity take-off tools, and MS Excel.
