Overview

The Medical Translator role is responsible for assisting medical caregivers in providing accurate interpretation and translation of medical information to patients, guests and their family members from Arabic to English or vice versa using appropriate medical terminologies and comprehensible language. The incumbent is also responsible for translating information including but not limited to purpose of medical visits, explanation of surgical and medical procedures, drug information and patient medical history.

Responsibilities

• Acts as a medium of communication between the asset\xe2\x80\x99s medical professionals and patients by translating and interpreting a wide range of information including but not limited to medical conditions, treatment options, follow-up appointment details, billing and insurance as well as patients\xe2\x80\x99 responses back to caregivers in an accurate and comprehensible manner using the right terminologies and language.
• Translates medical text, reports and other documents from English to Arabic and vice versa and explains to patients accordingly to ensure their understanding and cooperation.
• Interprets critical medical advice and information given by the relevant medical caregiver in an accurate manner and translates into equivalent terminology and language comprehensible by the patient.
• Communicates with patients and/or families to identify and resolve any significant issues in coordination with relevant medical caregivers.
• Relays information regarding the patients\xe2\x80\x99 cultural issues to the medical caregivers.
• Assists in conducting follow up activities post treatment of the patients as and when required.
• Conducts general and medical interpretation activities to caregivers, patients and/or their families in line with the asset rules and regulations.
• Conducts data collection activities including but not limited to auditing, compiling, coding, calculations and verifications of the information and data.
• Actively participates in organizational training programs and on the job learning to continuously learn and enhance skillset required to perform the job.
• Take reasonable care of their own safety and health, and of others that might be affected by their acts or omissions at work.
• Comply with reasonable OSH instructions and safe working procedures, familiarize themselves, understand, cooperate and comply with their employer OSH policies, procedures with respect to any instructions and/or actions taken by the management to protect the employees and/or comply with OSH requirements which are relevant to their workplace.
• Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems and ensure they are maintained in good working condition.
• Be familiar and participate in emergency management and evacuation drills.
• Not willfully or recklessly endanger anyone\xe2\x80\x99s health and safety.
• Assist with the preparation of risk assessments.
• Report all OSH hazards, incidents, and issues to their immediate supervisor.

Qualifications

• Vocational / Technical Education
• 4+ years of similar experience
• Strong understanding of medical terminologies
• Ability to communicate and relay messages in a clear and culturally sensitive manner
• Strong Interpersonal and Intrapersonal skills
• Analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to perform under pressure
• Practical knowledge in Microsoft Office suite
• Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic
