Install, inspect, and troubleshoot mechanical systems and machinery, ensuring proper operation and compliance with safety standards.
Work on hospital-specific mechanical systems, including
air handling units (AHUs)

sterilization equipment

piping systems

water systems

Installation & Assembly:
Install new mechanical systems, equipment, and components, ensuring that all installations meet hospital standards and specifications.
Assemble and align mechanical systems and subassemblies, including motors, gears, belts, and couplings.
Repair & Troubleshooting:
Diagnose mechanical failures, identify causes, and perform necessary repairs promptly to minimize disruption to hospital operations.
Use diagnostic tools and techniques to troubleshoot mechanical issues effectively.
Preventive Maintenance:
Conduct preventive maintenance inspections, servicing, and cleaning of mechanical systems to ensure longevity and reduce the likelihood of breakdowns.
Develop and follow maintenance schedules for mechanical equipment to ensure systems are operating efficiently and reliably.
Compliance & Safety:
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including proper handling of tools, equipment, and hazardous materials.
Adhere to all hospital safety protocols and mechanical system compliance standards to ensure a safe working environment.
Maintain a safe and organized work area, following all environmental, health, and safety guidelines.
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of maintenance, inspections, repairs, and parts replacement.
Complete work orders and report on any issues, system performance, and progress on ongoing tasks to management.
Collaboration:
Work closely with other maintenance and facilities management teams to coordinate repairs and upgrades on mechanical systems.
Provide technical support to other departments and assist in the training of less experienced staff.
Emergency Response:
Respond to emergency mechanical system failures, ensuring rapid resolution to minimize downtime and disruption in hospital services.
Be available for on-call duties or overtime work as required, especially during critical system failures.
Continuous Improvement:
Suggest improvements to mechanical systems to increase reliability and efficiency.
Contribute to sustainability efforts by identifying opportunities for energy savings, reduced consumption, and environmentally friendly practices.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
Minimum of 3 years
technical training in
Mechanical Fitting
or a related trade (e.g.,
NVQ Level 3
,
BTEC
,
City & Guilds
, or equivalent certification).
A
minimum of 3 years
hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance, with
desirable experience in the hospital or healthcare service sector
(not construction).
Proven experience in installing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical systems such as
HVAC

water systems
,
pumps
, and
motors
.
Certifications & Training:
Relevant
mechanical fitting certifications
(e.g.,
City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering

NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Fitting

Experience with
Legionella Control
