Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Marine Mechanical Fitter or Technician to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical fitting, assembly, and machining, with specific experience in marine vessels and components. You will be responsible for the precise installation, alignment, repair, and testing of critical marine systems, with a potential focus on propulsion units, rudders, and propellers.
Key Qualifications & Education

  • Education: Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or ITI Certificate in Mechanical Fitter/Turner/Machinist.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3+ years of hands-on experience in a similar role within the marine, shipbuilding, or heavy engineering industry.
  • Technical Skills (Required):
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, isometric drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Strong knowledge of fitting techniques, including alignment, drilling, tapping, and fastening.
  • Experience with precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators, laser alignment tools).
  • Ability to perform machining operations on lathes, milling machines, or grinders is highly advantageous (for Machinist/Technician roles).
  • Specialized Skills (Highly Desired):
  • For Fitter-Rudder & Propeller: Demonstrable experience in the installation, removal, and alignment of rudders, propeller shafts, stern tubes, and propellers (fixed-pitch and controllable-pitch).
  • Knowledge of keyway fitting, bearing installation, and sealing systems.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic systems related to steering gears and CPP systems.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assembly & Installation: Fit, assemble, and install mechanical components for marine vessels, including engines, gearboxes, pumps, valves, pipework, rudders, and propellers.
  • Precision Alignment: Perform precision alignment of engines, gearboxes, and shafting systems using conventional and laser alignment tools to meet strict tolerances.
  • Machining Operations: Operate machine tools (lathe, milling machine, drill press) to fabricate, modify, or repair components as required.
  • Inspection & Testing: Conduct pre-installation inspections and post-installation testing of assembled units. Identify and troubleshoot faults or discrepancies.
  • Interpretation of Plans: Work from complex engineering drawings and specifications to ensure work is completed accurately and to the highest quality standards.
  • Quality & Safety: Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and quality control standards. Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Documentation: Complete necessary job cards, inspection reports, and work orders accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Team Collaboration: Work effectively both independently and as part of a team, liaising with supervisors, engineers, and other tradespeople.
