Position Overview
Legal Counsel Global Corporate Finance and Islamic Banking at First Abu Dhabi Bank in Abu Dhabi supports the management of legal risk across jurisdictions where the bank operates. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice and support to business teams while aligning with FAB strategic and commercial objectives
  • Collaborate with the Head of Legal and Senior Legal Counsel to implement and maintain FAB Group legal policies and procedures
  • Deliver legal tasks and projects within agreed timelines and respond to assigned legal queries
  • Provide legal oversight and risk guidance to FAB subsidiaries and international branches for relevant products and services
  • Assist in managing litigation and disputes with customers and counterparties in the UAE and internationally
  • Represent FAB before courts, notaries public, court experts, police, and other authorities when required
  • Report litigation matters and provide timely updates to senior legal leadership and stakeholders
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and legal documents to maximize legal protection and minimize risk
  • Prepare, update, and maintain standardized agreements, contracts, and terms and conditions in line with best practices and legal requirements
  • Support the review and enhancement of legal policies, processes, and standard documentation
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments and provide updates on potential business impact
  • Share legal knowledge and best practices across the legal function and build strong working relationships with colleagues
  • Liaise with external authorities, regulators, and law firms to resolve legal matters efficiently
  • Prepare accurate and timely MIS and legal reports in line with FAB standards
Specific Accountabilities
  • Draft, review, and negotiate Islamic banking agreements and standard terms and conditions
  • Support Islamic finance transactions including syndicated loans, project finance, acquisition finance, real estate finance, asset finance, and restructurings
  • Work with external counsel and internal stakeholders on Islamic finance documentation and transactions
  • Support development and rollout of new Islamic banking products and services
  • Draft, review, and negotiate English and Arabic consumer and business banking documentation
  • Handle customer requests to amend standard documentation locally and internationally
  • Assist with dispute management and customer complaints across jurisdictions
  • Recommend improvements to legal policies and processes to enhance efficiency and turnaround times
Ideal Profile
  • Bachelor's degree in Law
  • Master's degree in Law preferred
  • Strong experience in corporate finance and Islamic banking legal matters
  • Excellent English and Arabic language skills
  • Ability to work autonomously while managing complex and high-risk legal matters
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills
