Job Purpose:

The Leadman - Asphalt is responsible for supervising and coordinating the daily operations of asphalt paving crews to ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality asphalt paving work on roads and infrastructure projects. The role includes monitoring crew performance, ensuring compliance with project specifications, and assisting the Supervisor/Foreman in daily site activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist the Supervisor/Foreman in planning and executing asphalt paving operations on site. Lead, direct, and guide a team of asphalt workers, paver operators, roller operators, and laborers. Ensure that the asphalt is laid in accordance with design specifications, proper thickness, alignment, and compaction. Monitor and maintain quality control during paving activities. Ensure that equipment, tools, and materials are used safely and properly. Communicate work instructions clearly to the crew and ensure daily targets are met. Coordinate with the asphalt plant for material supply and schedule. Report progress, issues, and incidents to the Supervisor or Project Engineer daily. Enforce site safety rules and ensure PPE usage and safe work practices at all times. Address minor crew conflicts or issues in coordination with the Site Supervisor. Assist in training new employees on proper paving techniques and safety protocols. Conduct pre-shift meetings to brief the crew on daily tasks and safety reminders.

Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent; Technical Certification is an advantage. Minimum 5 years of experience in asphalt paving, with at least 2 years in a leadership role. Good knowledge of asphalt paving equipment, tools, and techniques. Familiarity with reading site drawings and layouts. Strong leadership, communication, and teamwork skills. Commitment to workplace health and safety. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Working Conditions:

Work primarily on construction sites. May be required to work night shifts, weekends, and overtime based on project needs. Physically demanding role, requiring standing, bending, lifting, and exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
