APM Terminals is undertaking a significant capital expansion project at its existing operation in Salalah, Oman. The goal of the project is to both grow the existing container terminal business, its capabilities and capacity, as well as expand the business value and proposition for entire region. Managing the interdependencies and interfaces between the existing (operational) Salalah business and the project is critical for the project and for this role. We are looking for a Integration Lead to take on this role.
Whilst the physical outputs of this project are tangible assets, the real value of the project is achieved by growing the business. Therefore, the purpose of this position is to act as the lead to ensure full integration between the new phases and the existing business. Closely liaising with, consulting and taking guidance from POS operations as well as aligning with the needs of other functions is key to success.
In this role, the Integration Lead will be responsible to drive the integration of the project outputs (assets) into the overall POS operations/organisation. The Integration Lead will focus on the project deliverables such as operational process, training and performance.
The overall scope of this project entails the design, civil works, equipment deliveries, associated automation and IT components, operational start-up and integration into the local running POS business.
Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
General
  • Fully comprehend and effectively communicate the key dynamics and interdependencies of project delivery and container terminal operations in the context of this project.
  • Be responsible for managing risks and interdependencies between project; existing business (operations) and concession grantor.
  • Provide input into relevant project plans such as risk management, issue management, schedule, configuration management and stakeholder management.
  • Together with the Project Manager, manage the formal communication and relationship between the Project and Terminal.
  • Ensure, in line with the Terminals Business processes and BPM, that the new expansion fits in the same setup, and ensures that any changes during the project to the business setup are assessed and addressed.
  • Creation, delivery and maintenance of a project integration plan to support the project objectives. This will include consulting and coordinating with Project, POS functions, HQ functions and other relevant parties.
  • In close liaison with the Terminal COO/Head of Operations revise and/or develop new operating procedures and, develop and execute relevant transition plans to switch from existing to new operations.
  • Whilst the existing business team will hire, onboard and train operational employees to utilize the project assets, the Integration Lead will consult with Terminal HR and Operations to coordinate input required from and for the project. For example, this may include: meeting milestone dates for asset handover and ‘Go-Live’, defining functional criteria of assets and manufacturer support.
  • Support the effective application of:
    • the change management process (changes to scope, schedule and budget),
    • the risk management process,
    • project KPIs& reporting, and
    • the document management process.
    • Support the Project Manager in correct and timely reporting:
      • within the project and team,
      • to the Project Steering Committee and
      • to other stakeholders (as required).
        Communication
        • Regularly meet with the terminal and project teams to timely discuss status and progress of the project related deliverables.
        • Build working relationships within HQ, cross-company and cross-terminal to capture the company’s best way of working.
          Interfaces
          • Whilst this is a lead role, managing interfaces will include more than just communication, it will include accountability and responsibility for preparation, delivery and management of ongoing plans and strategies.
          • HQ, Operations, Terminal Teams, Project Team.
            Reporting and Scope:
            • The direct reporting line will be to the Project Manager.
            • The functional reporting line is to APM Terminals’ HUBS Global Operations.
            • Geographical scope: local – Salalah, Oman.
              Critical Qualifications/Skills/Experience:
              Experience
              • Minimum 5 years of experience in managing interdependencies in large scale complex projects – preferably in projects with multi-dimensional stakeholder management.
              • Experience working in capital expansion projects.
              • Minimum 5 years of experience working in roles coordinating multi-discipline teams.
              • Experienced in working in a matrix organization and in a functional role.
              • Experience in implementing high tech projects in a wider business environment.
                Knowledge
                • Broad knowledge on all aspects of the container terminal industry and activities.
                • Professional project experience, e.g. project management, stakeholder management, risk management, project controls, communication.
                  Skills
                  • Collaborative team player.
                  • Diligent and accountable.
                  • Good communication skills, where an excellent level of English is a must. Command of the Arabic language is an advantage.
                  • Sensitive to cultural diversity and experience in a multicultural environment, with regard to colleagues, local authorities and other stakeholders.
                  • Problem solving skills: Ability to rationally assess a situation, problem or scenario and work through to a realistic summary, conclusion and practical resolution options. This includes transparently communication and bringing others into the process where required.
                  • Ability to reach agreement: Reaching agreement in consultation with others serving the business and project objectives, considering the interests of all parties and which are acceptable to everyone involved.
                  • Comfortable with constructively challenging colleagues at all levels within the organization.
                  • Highly disciplined – following up on actions and with necessary documentation.
