The Head of HSE is responsible for the design, implementation, communication and coordination of all environmental, health, and safety programs for the company, to drive improvement across all of these areas.
This position will develop and provide technical and administrative direction on all HSE decisions, which bear critical importance to overall company objectives and operations. The Position is responsible for managing safety across all IFFCO sites worldwide.
Roles & Responsibilities
Provide guidance to the Business Unit leaders in the effective deployment of resources to deliver step change HSE activities, sustained by robust auditing systems.
Develop teams within the business units to take responsibility for implementing HSE initiatives, ensuring that the HSE function is adequately resourced, and appointing the relevant competent specialists / consultants for specific activities where appropriate.
Advise Business Units in maintaining regulatory compliance documentation. Serve as the Corporate expert within the field of HSE when called upon to advise on regulatory agency compliance issues, third party safety & liability consultants and subcontractor representatives.
Ensure plans are in place to ensure the company progresses favourably against industry HSE benchmarks.
Establish effective competency development programs to increase proficiency in safe practices, and the promotion of HSE consciousness across all levels within the organisation.
Leverage communication channels effectively with consistency to continually maintain an appropriate level of HSE awareness, knowledge and preparedness across the company, to embed an authentic HSE culture.
Develop and/or review internal HSE policies and practices to ensure they are current and appropriate.
Establish a robust hazard identification and risk assessment infrastructure, to ensure risks are appropriately controlled and managed with consistency across the organisation.
Ensuring systems are in place to identify fire hazards and consequential risks, advising on measures to minimize these risks, and establish the nessesary preventative and emergency procedures.
To Identify and establish suitable HSE records and supporting management systems.
Advise the Business Units in developing cost effective HSE budgets during the fiscal cycle, supported with implementation guidance.
Actively participate in safety meetings across Business Units to review and advise on HSE performance and policies.
Stay abreast of current and emerging technical and professional aspects of this position.
Participate/attend industry related conferences when requested to do so.
Regular interaction with senior management and Supervisory Board.
Develop cost optimised strategies to address sustainability issues, such as energy use, resource conservation, recycling, pollution reduction, waste elimination, transportation, in close collaboration with the corporate sustainability team.
Develop a clear reporting system to provide a measure of the effectiveness of sustainability initiatives.
Ensure manufacturing safety systems are implemented aligned with the IFFCO operational excellence framework.
Clearly define and implement a balanced safety measurement system with leading indicators with a clear link to harm reduction.
Ensure all HSE systems are implemented aligned with the corporate digitalisation strategy.

Decrease in the number of safety incidents
% reduction in penalties due to HSE violations
Number of initiatives completed for ensuring HSE compliance & awareness within specified timelines
Number of HSE workshops / training events conducted
Number of man days lost due to accidents, safety hazards, stoppage of work
Financial loss for IFFCO arising due to negligence in HSE execution
Closure of action plans developed post HSE inspections and audit/ open action items
Work experience requirement
Experience - minimum Ten (10) years of industrial safety experience. NEBOSH Qualified
Relevant Work Experience - Advanced knowledge of industry practices, regulatory agency requirements and industry standards. Preference for relevant food industry experience.
Qualification
A bachelor\'s degree or higher in Safety, Engineering or a related technical field
NEBOSH qualified; Lead auditor for 9001,14001 & 18001 standards
Fire safety qualification is preferred
