Freight Operations Officer

Job Description

Objectives: The Freight Officer works with customers, logistics operators and customs officials for the planning and tracking the movement of goods. Reports to: Operations Manager Responsibilities & Tasks: A. Perform operations and advise clients on tariff/rates/costs/quotations. B. Propose recommendations in cargo consolidation solutions for space and cost. C. Propose recommendations in cargo handling solutions considering timeline and resource factors. D. Propose recommendations in methods to manage dangerous goods. E. Review cargo handling and delivery operations according to rating principles. F. Arranging FCL (Full Container Loads), LCL (Less Container Loads) Trailer and Air freight. G. Communicating directly with clients to ensure that they are kept up to date in respect of the shipping status of their consignments. H. Ensuring that the client is offered positive communication in the event of a shipping problem, being pro-active to provide a solution where possible. I. Preparing and providing documents to customers in accordance with the terms of shipment standard operating procedures Minimum Educational Qualifications & Previous Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Contract Logistics Sales / Marketing / Supply Chain Solutions..
  • Five (5) or more years of experience within the Contract Logistics industry, Warehousing and road freight, in a sales & business development function handling large customer.
  • Experience in developing and executing strategic and tactical plans, in a large and dynamic sales environment.
  • Driving license desirable.
e. Advance proficiency with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint Other Skills:
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) is a must.
  • Excellent client / management presentation skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to influence and build relationships at all levels.
  • Must be honest, dependable, and able to meet deadlines.
  • Must be organized and able to handle multiple tasks.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Willingness to accommodate requests for support outside of regular business hours on occasion, with appropriate notice.
  • An element of diplomacy to navigate the multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Be able to see "the bigger picture" including an understanding of all stakeholders i.e., customers, employees, outsource partners and network offices.
  • Drive and resilience, particularly with regard to implementing strategy and managing development & change.
