JOB DESCRIPTION The Foundry Metallurgist\xe2\x80\x99s main responsibility is to establish, maintain and implement process controls surrounding metal processing to improve overall metal quality and cost. Additionally, this position oversees the Foundry Lab and its operations of process control for all testing, metallurgical and sand systems. \xef\x82\xb7 Establish and monitor chemical and physical properties of all metals poured to meet customer specifications and governing standards \xef\x82\xb7 Establish and monitor sand properties to produce castings with good appearance and free from defects \xef\x82\xb7 Directly responsible for the Foundry Laboratory (equipment calibration, raw material usage, etc.) \xef\x82\xb7 Responsible for improving quality relating to sand or metallurgical defects \xef\x82\xb7 Supervise Foundry Lab and Melt Department in an efficient manner to ensure consistent production of quality metal and control of foundry sand systems, gating and risering, etc. \xef\x82\xb7 Establish and audit pouring temperatures and practices to ensure good quality castings \xef\x82\xb7 Responsible for material certifications (C\xe2\x80\x99s & P\xe2\x80\x99s) \xef\x82\xb7 Responsible for material and equipment evaluations (innoculants, alloys, binders, additives, coatings, etc.) to improve quality or reduce costs \xef\x82\xb7 Responsible for metallurgical questions or consulting with Engineers, and customers (Warranty Returns for example) \xef\x82\xb7 Establish and audit processes such as heat treat cycles to produce castings with necessary properties. \xef\x82\xb7 Instruct and train foremen and others in technical areas of foundry metals, sand, etc. \xef\x82\xb7 Other Duties as requested or required \xef\x82\xb7 Skills and Experience EDUCATION \xef\x82\xb7 Preferred B.S. in Metallurgy, Metallurgical Engineering or Engineering with concentration in Metallurgy \xef\x82\xb7 B.S. Engineering Degree with minimum 10 years of Foundry Metallurgy Experience. EXPERIENCE \xef\x82\xb7 Gray Iron processing \xef\x82\xb7 Ductile Iron processing \xef\x82\xb7 Copper Based alloys preferred. \xef\x82\xb7 Knowledge of Foundry manufacturing processes/practices. \xef\x82\xb7 Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, Access Job Type: Full-time Ability to commute/relocate:
