Job Description

A hospital facility manager oversees the maintenance, safety, and functionality of the physical environment of a hospital, ensuring a safe and efficient environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This role involves managing various aspects of the hospital's infrastructure, including building systems, equipment, and grounds, while also ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Building Maintenance and Operations:

Overseeing the maintenance and repair of all building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.), ensuring they function properly and efficiently.

Safety and Security:

Implementing and maintaining safety protocols, emergency procedures, and security measures to protect patients, staff, and visitors.

Compliance and Regulations:

Ensuring the hospital facility adheres to all relevant healthcare regulations, building codes, and safety standards (e.g., OSHA, CDC, ADA).

Budget Management:

Managing the facility's budget for maintenance, repairs, and capital projects.

Vendor Management:

Overseeing contracts with vendors for services such as cleaning, security, waste management, and equipment maintenance.

Space Management:

Planning and managing space allocations, layouts, and office moves within the hospital.

Emergency Response:

Responding to and managing facility-related emergencies, such as power outages, equipment failures, or safety incidents.

Sustainability Initiatives:

Implementing energy-efficient practices and promoting sustainability within the hospital.

Team Management:

Managing and supervising a team of maintenance staff, technicians, and other personnel.

Collaboration:

Working closely with other hospital departments (e.g., nursing, administration, infection control) to ensure optimal facility performance and service delivery.

Project Management:

Overseeing renovations, repairs, and construction projects within the hospital.

Data Analysis:

Collecting and analyzing data related to facility operations, maintenance, and energy consumption to identify areas for improvement.
Key Skills and Qualifications:

Technical Knowledge:

Understanding of building systems, equipment, and maintenance procedures.

Management Skills:

Ability to manage budgets, supervise staff, and oversee projects.

Problem-Solving Skills:

Ability to identify and resolve facility-related issues quickly and effectively.

Communication Skills:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with staff, vendors, and other stakeholders.

Compliance Knowledge:

Understanding of relevant healthcare regulations, building codes, and safety standards.

Experience:

Proven experience in facilities management, preferably in a healthcare setting.
