Description
During the time period for which he/she is responsible, assess the overall needs of the individual patients, assess in preparation and implements the care process as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
Day to Day Activities:
Check the ambulance every shift and make sure all equipment are functioning well, supplies are available and up-to-date.
Make sure all equipment are calibrated.
Restore (stock or supply) to a former level or condition.
Received information from the E.R. physician or senior nursing staff for emergency and non-emergency calls and responds promptly.
Before the ambulance leaves the hospital, ensure to counter-check all the equipment are functioning well, supplies and consumable items are available that are needed in patient care.
Transfer Patient to and from Dallah Hospital:
Carefully leads and provide lifting and moving of the patients from their location to the transport equipment towards the ambulance.
Observe, document and report patient condition or injury, treatment provided and treatment reaction to the E.R. Physician.
Reassure patient, family during an event of a medical emergency and avoids mishandling patients or incurring undue hassle that may jeopardize patient's rights.
Proper endorsement of patient and executes exchange of information to the E.R. physician and nursing staff on duty for continuity of care.
After ambulance used, to restocks and replaced used supplied and check equipments.
Cleans all equipment following appropriate disinfecting procedures, careful check of all equipment so that the ambulance is ready for the next run.
Additional Activities:
Triage each patient and determines priority of care based on
Physical, psychological and social needs as well as factors influencing patient flow through the emergency care system.
Works directly under physicians, assisting them during exam, diagnostic testing and treatments
Cleans and bandages wounds
Provides basic, bedside care
Assist in various procedures like Intubation, Chest Tube Insertion, Foley Catheter Insertion and etc
Prepare the patient for various investigations like X-ray, Ultrasound, MRI and etc
Collection of samples, evaluate and record the results
Displays professionalism while completing multiple urgent tasks in a timely manner
Maintains proper supplies and appropriate medical equipment to care for patients
Maintains continuity of care during take-over and handover reports, ensuring that the communication is clear and accurate at all times.
Ensures that doctors' orders and patient management plans are followed and that appropriate steps are taken, including immediate notification of the doctors, of any deterioration from the expected course of the patient's condition.
Ensures that the appropriate records of the patients' progress are maintained according to the hospital policies and procedures.
Ensure the safety of the patient, relatives and staff. Reporting untoward incident / accident / staff sickness to the Sister / Charge Nurse.
Maintain current knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age and patient clinical conditions. Calculate, prepare, monitor, and discontinue fluids and medication drips. Reports adverse reaction to medications.
Take an active role in the prevention and control of infection.
Reports adverse reaction to medication.
Contribute to the induction of new staff acting as a mentor when appropriate.
Participate in the Quality Improvement Program within his / her area of responsibilities.
Be committed to further development of own clinical skills and knowledge actively seeking learning opportunities as appropriate.
Ensures that the record of all drugs, IV fluids, etc, is up-to-date as required by the Pharmacy, and ensures that the rules and regulations governing the storage and custody of scheduled drugs and narcotics are strictly observed at all times.
Maintain skill and knowledge in using various medical devices such as ECG machine, Defibrillator, Infusion and Syringe Pump and other life saving equipment.
Maintain skills and knowledge by participating various nursing education programs, in-service training, nursing symposium, workshops & etc.
Ensure that the necessary financial records are maintained for the Finance Department.
Staff should be competent as follows:
To be able to assess and manage diabetic emergencies.
To be able to assess and provide care to patient with burn.
To provide emergency care of injured patient with bleeding.
To provide guidelines in implementing the TRIAGE process.
To provide care for patients with shock.
To be able to assess and provide emergency care for patient with Head trauma.
To be able to assist and provides care to the patient with Chest drains / Chest tubes.
To be able to assist and provides care for a patient requiring defibrillation /cardioversion.
Provides care to the critically ill (adult, infant / pediatric).
Provides care for the patient receiving thrombolytic therapy.
To be able to assess and manage according to the types of wounds
Provide age related physiological care and psychosocial support during a diagnostic or therapeutic procedure-moderate and deep.
To know the urgency in performing the procedure and properly assist in systematic manner.
Calculates dosages and administers medications for patients in Pediatric Emergency.
To be able to be managed abortion in correct manner.
Ability to assess the fetal heart rate patterns by using CTG (Cardio-tomogram).
Participate in patient and family education to help patients and families to better understand and participate in their care and make well informed care decisions
Requirements
Necessary Knowledge and Experience:
Experience, six months of which must be in the specialty
Good command of English Language
Education and Certification Requirements:
Appropriate Qualification/Registration with SCHS as Emergency Medical Services.
BS Emergency Medical Services.
Valid BLS, ACLS certificate.
