Job Summary:
The Diagnostic Technician is responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, and diagnosing issues in vehicles, medical equipment, or industrial machinery (depending on the industry). They use specialized diagnostic tools, software, and technical expertise to identify problems and recommend repairs or maintenance. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in using diagnostic equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Diagnostic Testing & Troubleshooting:

• Perform diagnostic scans and tests using specialized equipment (e.g., OBD-II scanners, multimeters, oscilloscopes, medical diagnostic devices).
• Analyze error codes, system readings, and performance data to identify malfunctions.
• Conduct visual and manual inspections of components to detect issues.

2. Repair & Maintenance Recommendations:

• Provide detailed reports on diagnostic findings.
• Recommend necessary repairs, replacements, or adjustments to resolve issues.
• Collaborate with mechanics, engineers, or medical technicians to implement solutions.

3. Equipment & Software Use:

• Operate diagnostic software (e.g., Bosch, Snap-on, OEM-specific tools, medical imaging software).
• Stay updated on new diagnostic technologies and industry advancements.
• Calibrate and maintain diagnostic tools for accuracy.

4. Documentation & Reporting:

• Record diagnostic results, repair recommendations, and parts needed.
• Maintain service logs and customer/patient records (if applicable).
• Follow industry compliance and safety standards.

5. Customer/Client Interaction (if applicable):

• Explain diagnostic findings to customers, technicians, or medical staff in clear terms.
• Provide cost and time estimates for repairs.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification, associate degree, or vocational training in automotive technology, biomedical equipment repair, or related field preferred.
• Experience: 2+ years in diagnostics (automotive, medical, or industrial).
• Technical Skills:
• Proficient with diagnostic tools (e.g., scan tools, oscilloscopes, medical imaging devices).
• Strong understanding of electrical systems, mechanical components, or medical equipment (depending on industry).
• Soft Skills:
• Problem-solving and critical thinking.
• Attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills.
• Certifications (Preferred):
• ASE (Automotive), OEM certifications, or biomedical equipment technician (BMET) certification.

Work Environment:

• Automotive: Repair shops, dealerships.
• Medical: Hospitals, clinics, labs.
• Industrial: Manufacturing plants, equipment service centers.
• May require standing for long periods, lifting heavy equipment, or working in confined spaces.
