Job Description

The Opportunity
The role holder owns the creation and maintenance of new strategies and oversees academic program management and provides program plans to advance an interdisciplinary curriculum that makes ZU a dynamic, innovative leader in education strategy. The Dean of Academic Programs is also responsible for ensuring consistency and quality of delivery of the academic components of ZU’s programs as well as building strong relationships with academic stakeholders. This includes training and direct supervision of academic programs, course curriculum, and course development.

The Responsibilities
Plans and develops program objectives and content for the faculty, student and community audiences, including the development of online engagement platforms if necessary. Researches and identifies trends and needs and establishes program directions accordingly. Assesses quality of program operations. Modifies existing program services or creates new program offerings to maintain or enhance program standing.
Directs the delivery of services to targeted program participants or beneficiaries. Sets and communicates program priorities and performance standards and assesses operations using these criteria. Provides for quality assurance reviews and addresses areas in need of attention.
Provides for and coordinates with other members of senior staff for the development and maintenance of automated or manual systems and procedures to facilitate program operations
Directly or indirectly manages all staff assigned to the program, usually through subordinate managers or supervisors. Oversees performance appraisal process for program staff and remains informed of any disciplinary actions required.
Develops and manages program budgets covering operations, endowments and sponsored projects.
Identifies fundraising and development opportunities. Seeks funds for program operations from private and public sources. Writes grants to fund programs, or works with faculty, researchers and/or staff to develop proposals. Serves as programs primary fundraiser and interacts regularly with support groups.
Directs the development of marketing and promotional strategies as necessary for program outreach to include personal networking, publications, newsletter sand related communications materials, and events planning.
Represents the program in community service activities
Oversees all program planning and evaluation activities, including coordinating program goals and strategies from the departmental strategic plan; assessment of student learning outcomes including submission of a Program
Assessment Plan and the annual Assessment Report; oversight of periodic program review including development and submission of the Program Portfolio and Program Development Plan; and when applicable, oversight of program accreditation.
Improves data collection and presentation regarding the efficacy of programs, and makes use of these data to improve all aspects of academic programs and relationship management.
Impacts all modifications to the curriculum, course sequencing and scheduling; and development and maintenance of the program’s curriculum guide.
Offers program development leadership and tracks performance measures to assess program success.
Develops and maintains relationships with other units on campus and supports relationships and partnerships in the community
Oversees planning and execution of special projects, meetings, and events and assures a well-coordinated and fully integrated communication program including email, social media, web site, newsletter, and other methods as necessary.
Serves as a liaison among the staff and students of the Program, the faculty, and ZU administration.
Assesses and maintains physical facilities of the Program, including equipment, supplies, and space. Reports, to the appropriate university official, maintenance or service required when necessary.
Develops, with program coordinator input, an annual budget for the Program.
Coordinates the expenditure of Program funds and participates when writing Program position descriptions.
Chairs the activities of Program search committees in relation to evaluations of applicants.
Formulates plans and communicates for hiring, retention, promotion, tenure, evaluation, merit pay, or discipline of Program staff.
Coordinates teaching assignments within the Program and communicates Program course schedule(s)
Coordinates accreditation, program review, or assessment activities required for the Program.
Maintains Program records.
Initiates curriculum changes and other activities to maintain a high-quality academic Program.
Develops University catalog Program descriptions.
Holds Program meetings and maintains minutes of these meetings.
Coordinates the academic advising of students of the Program.
Maintains current course syllabi for the Program.

Behavioral Competencies
Education and Qualifications
Ph.D. or equivalent in a relevant discipline, experience developing programs, courses, and appropriate teaching, curriculum development, and educational partnership experience. Leadership and mentoring experience
Experience
Minimum 20 years of Academia program management experience with at least 5 years of experience at the Dean level
