Create cutting lists, hardware schedules, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and material take-offs to guide the manufacturing process.
Collaborate and coordinate:
Liaise with designers, architects, site engineers, and production teams to ensure all aspects of the design are understood and achievable.
Perform site visits:
Visit project sites to take accurate measurements, verify dimensions, and address any technical issues that arise during construction.
Ensure compliance and quality:
Check that all designs adhere to industry standards, building codes, and safety regulations, and update drawings based on feedback or site modifications.
Specify materials and finishes:
Provide guidance on material selections and finishes, coordinating with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure design feasibility.
Manage project documentation:
Maintain organized records of drawing versions and approvals throughout the project lifecycle.
Technical and software skills
CAD software proficiency:
Expertise in 2D and 3D CAD software is essential. Common tools include AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, Inventor, and SolidWorks.
Knowledge of joinery:
A strong understanding of joinery techniques, manufacturing processes, wood properties, and materials (e.g., MDF, veneer, hardwood) is crucial.
Blueprint reading:
The ability to read and accurately interpret complex architectural, structural, and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) drawings is necessary for the role.
