The Fire Maintenance Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, scheduling, and overseeing the inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of fire protection systems to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, safety standards, and organizational policies. This role acts as the primary liaison between internal stakeholders, service providers, and regulatory authorities to maintain reliable fire safety systems across all facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate scheduled inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance of fire protection systems, including:
Fire alarms and detection systems
Fire suppression systems (sprinklers, gaseous systems, foam systems)
Fire extinguishers, hose reels, and hydrants
Emergency lighting and fire doors
Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, certifications, deficiencies, and corrective actions.
Ensure compliance with applicable fire codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., NFPA, local fire authority requirements).
Manage service contractors and vendors, including scheduling, scope of work, and performance monitoring.
Track work orders, follow up on deficiencies, and ensure timely completion of corrective actions.
Assist with audits, fire inspections, and regulatory reviews.
Coordinate system impairments, ensure proper notifications, and implement interim life safety measures when required.
Support fire system upgrades, replacements, and capital improvement projects.
Prepare reports, compliance documentation, and maintenance schedules.
Provide guidance and communication to facility teams regarding fire safety system status.
Participate in emergency response planning and fire safety training initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
Diploma, Associate Degree, or Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection, Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field (preferred).
2-5 years of experience in fire system maintenance, facilities coordination, or life safety systems.
Knowledge of fire protection systems, fire codes, and regulatory compliance.
Experience working with contractors and regulatory authorities.
Strong organizational, documentation, and scheduling skills.
Proficiency with CMMS or maintenance management software.
Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
Certifications (Preferred)
Fire Inspector or Fire Protection certification
NFPA-related training or certifications
Facilities or safety management certifications
Working Conditions
Office-based with regular site visits to facilities.
May require occasional after-hours or emergency response support.
Physical ability to access mechanical rooms and inspect fire safety equipment.
