Position Overview
Allocation Assist Middle East is recruiting a highly specialized Consultant Ophthalmologist with expertise in Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) for a prestigious hospital in Abu Dhabi. This senior clinical role focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of retinal diseases in neonatal and pediatric patients, working closely with NICU teams to prevent and manage vision-threatening conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and manage Retinopathy of Prematurity and other neonatal and pediatric retinal disorders
  • Perform specialized ophthalmic procedures including laser photocoagulation, cryotherapy, and intravitreal injections for ROP
  • Conduct regular retinal screening programs for premature infants in neonatal intensive care units
  • Collaborate closely with neonatologists, pediatricians, and multidisciplinary clinical teams to deliver integrated patient care
  • Develop and implement evidence-based treatment protocols to reduce the risk of visual impairment and blindness
  • Provide expert consultation on retinal surgery, advanced retinal imaging, and disease progression
  • Educate parents and caregivers on ROP risks, treatment options, outcomes, and preventive strategies
  • Stay updated with advancements in pediatric ophthalmology, retinal surgery, and neonatal screening technologies
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure full compliance with UAE healthcare regulations and clinical governance standards
Ideal Profile
  • Medical degree with specialization in Ophthalmology and retinal disorders
  • Fellowship training in Retinopathy of Prematurity or pediatric retina
  • Valid DHA, DOH, or MOH license to practice in the UAE or eligibility to obtain one
  • Minimum 5 years of experience at consultant level
  • Proven expertise in laser therapy, retinal surgery, and neonatal retinal diagnostic imaging
  • Strong diagnostic, clinical decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary neonatal care environments
Preferred Profile
  • Previous experience working in Abu Dhabi or the wider GCC region
  • Research involvement in ROP management or pediatric retinal disease advancements
  • Familiarity with teleophthalmology platforms and AI-assisted retinal screening tools
