Job Description

Wood is recruiting for a Commercial Manager for the UAE Projects business unit to be based in our office in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The successful candidate will work to represent and protect Wood commercial interests in UAE.

The successful candidate will have specialist commercial and contractual skills and knowledge relating to the Oil, Gas, Power, Process & Chemicals sectors and ideally extending across other Wood lines of business. The individual should be highly motivated, have international experience across a large geographic footprint, ideally including GCC countries, and be confident engaging and interfacing at all levels, both internally and client facing.

Responsible for managing the commercial function and associated resources within UAE.

Providing direction and leadership for all commercial personnel working within designated project / sub region, covering all corporate and project commercial deliverables throughout both pre and post contract activities.

Ensuring delivery of commercial reporting to corporate function and ensure all commercial procedures are followed and reviewed. Implementation and delivery of key policies and procedures including the Financial Management Framework and Tender Governance Procedures.

Mentors and coach direct reports in commercial processes and procedures, personnel development and training.

Responsibilities

The Commercial Manager's main deliverables and responsibilities are listed below:

+ Responsible for managing the commercial function and associated resources within UAE

+ Promotes safe working practices within commercial function

+ Implementation of commercial strategy within the assigned project/sub business group and ensures alignment of objectives to the business unit strategy

+ Manages and provides team members with general direction in commercial activities during the contract life cycle from input into tenders through contract delivery to contract commercial closeout

+ Governance and implementation of Financial Management Framework within assigned project/sub business group

+ Align project / sub business groups specific commercial requirements with WOOD commercial processes and procedures and communicate to relevant personnel

+ Carry out commercial compliance review for assigned project / sub business group

+ Providing effective pre- and post-contract commercial management as part of the UAE Management team, ensuring that maximum commercial entitlement is pursued

+ Maintain and promote a safe working environment and demonstrate correct HSE behaviours and leadership

+ Responsible for communicating and reinforcing the requirements of Mandatory Commercial Procedures, governance and compliance

+ Ensuring TGP approval process is followed and that necessary approvals are obtained and documented

+ Liaises with various internal customers with regards to commercial management, risk reviews, corporate reporting and contractual discussions

+ Liaises with various external interfaces (Clients, Sub - Contractors, Suppliers) with regards to tendering, contractual discussions, progress meetings

+ Resource competent commercial personnel to assigned project / sub business group

+ Ensuring projects are appropriately resourced from a commercial perspective

+ Negotiation of contracts and sub-contracts in line with documented contracting principles

+ Provision of management review and input to business / project set up, ensuring coordination/ administration procedures are in place

+ Ensuring appropriate training and development supporting continuing commercial competency is provided for personnel in the Commercial Function

+ Ensuring that project invoicing carried out in accordance with terms and conditions of the various contracts and that cash position is maximized

+ Ensuring that end life forecasting and cost / value reporting on projects are undertaken in accordance with policies and procedures and that the appropriate values are reflected in the management accounts

+ Ensuring that variation requests, contract amendment requests and claims are submitted in accordance with contract requirements

+ Deliver Commercial Presentations to both internal and external stakeholders

+ Enhance project delivery and avoid any risk or commercial exposure to WOOD

+ Contribute directly to value creation and commercial gain to WOOD and Clients

+ Ensure direct reports complete all Ethics, Business Code of Conduct and all other mandatory training

Qualifications

+ Completion of an undergraduate degree in business administration, commerce, quantity surveying, or similar discipline

+ Professional qualifications desirable but not essential.

Knowledge, skills and experience

+ 5 to 7 years experience in a similar leadership/management role or professional qualification is desirable

+ Experience in negotiation, claims & dispute resolution

+ Experience in drafting and interpretation of contractual documentation

+ Competent in change management
