The Business Development Manager Middle East will support the marketing and client development strategy for the ME region. This is a strategic, yet hands on, role which drives and holds accountability for the planning and day-to-day delivery of the firm's client development activities. The role will help improve Kennedys' client relationships and increase our pursuit conversation rate. It will also help strengthen Kennedys profile in local markets through well managed marketing initiatives. The position is part of a global and regional EMEA business development function that helps deliver on Kennedys' vision and strategy to set the standard for insurance defence and coverage, and for complementary dispute resolution and commercial law services. The Business Development team helps promote Kennedys niche specialisms, exceptional service, collaborative culture and ground-breaking technology. It also finds distinctive ways to promotes the knowledge of our lawyers and innovators in order to help our clients face the future with confidence. Team The position is part of the Kennedys EMEA Business Development team and promotes Kennedys services and supports the firm's global growth ambition and our key clients and markets. The EMEA Business Development team helps promote Kennedys niche specialisms, exceptional service, collaborative culture and ground-breaking technology. It also finds distinctive ways to promote the knowledge of our lawyers and innovators in order to help our clients face the future with confidence. We have Business Development presence in APAC, LATAM and the U.S. The UK Business Development team consists of the following sub-teams, Pursuits (Tenders, Opportunities, RFPs), Clients and Markets, Publications, Client Development Systems and Marketing which encompasses, Communications, Digital, Brand and Events. Key Responsibilities Business and Client Development
  • Work with partners to prepare office business plans and broader initiatives throughout the year. This could include marketing ideas, client activities or new campaigns that will help promote Kennedys specialist global expertise. Contribute regional or global agendas for business lines e.g. liability, property/construction, financial lines, corporate and commercial, etc. Support the Senior BD Manager by contributing to the regional plans and agenda.
  • Help partners prepare for strategic pursuits. Operate as a respected and proactive internal consultant, coaching partners and others involved in winning new business in the art of developing competitive, commercial propositions.
  • Project manage local and international pursuits (Tenders, Opportunities, RFPs). Approve draft content, formal panel tenders and informal pursuits e.g. proposal documents, presentations and fee quotes. Analyse opportunities to recommend bid/no bid decisions for local opportunities.
  • Draft and manage a library of local content that connects in with the firm's UK pursuit library and templates. Support partners on pitch presentations, win themes and best practice. Manage and feed the Opportunities module for the region.
  • Support the Senior BD Manager and KRM team in London with lawyer engagement for the firm's KRM programme. Proactively support the management of the firm's key clients. Co-develop client plans and drive the execution of those plans in order to improve the firm's strategic position with each client and increase our share of work. Work closely with lawyers to encourage CRM best practice including, proactive relationship-marking, relationship development activities, client feedback and regular CRM meetings etc.
Marketing and communications
  • Take responsibility for planning and executing targeted marketing campaigns that draw together the full MarComms mix - events, sponsorship, web, press, social media, and marketing collateral to ensure marketing activities are not executed in isolation and are approached as campaigns wherever possible. This will involve working closely with partners, the broader marketing team and Corporate and Public Affairs department.
  • Ensure the annual programme of local seminars, conferences and exhibition programmes and day-to-day client hospitality activities are executed. Work collaboratively with Partners on suggesting targeted business development and marketing programmes to increase brand profile and generate networking opportuniti Ensure all events are managed and executed efficiently and to the highest quality within agreed budgets.
  • Manage external communications including media opportunities such as drafting press releases, award submissions, negotiating sponsorship, securing industry features and articles and press commentar Coach Partners and fee earners in dealing with the media.
  • Approve draft internal communications ensuring that local and regional activities are profiled appropriately across Kennedys' international network, including the intranet and other internal comms channels.
  • Manage legal directory entries for local offices (Legal 500 and Chambers). Deliver best practice guidance on the process, assist to secure interviews where possible, in order to improve rankings in key areas of expertise.
  • Take responsibility for new website content ensuring recent matters, joiners etc. are profiled. Edit high quality marketing communications e.g. news alerts, electronic publications and online articles.
  • Act as a guardian of the firm's brand and corporate identity, including applying guidelines for its consistent application across branded materials produced inside and outside of the firm. Approve all draft local marketing materials including flyers and ad-hoc collateral.
Required experience

  • Tech and digital savvy - fast learner and capable of handling new systems, processes and procedures
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to work to deadlines and stay calm under pressure whilst juggling projects and the growing number of webinars and virtual events across EMEA
  • Problem-solver and a willingness to take ownership of tasks
  • Proficient in MS office with experience in using common marketing communications applications and platforms e.g. CRM (preferably Interaction), Vuture, Zoom, Teams and LinkedIn
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English
  • An additional European or Middle Eastern language is a plus, but not a must
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with people at all levels
  • Ability to create and maintain professional and positive relationships with clients, peers and other members of staff
  • Strong project management and planning skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple and shifting priorities
