Overview
Manages safety program for the Aviation Maintenance Program Manager and monitors safety
related functions across the maintenance contract functions. Develops and administers a safety
program for the aviation maintenance contract; identifying goals, objectives, and priorities;
integrating risk controls into standing operating procedures (SOP) and ensuring that written SOPs
exist for all functional areas and for all operations. Conducts risk assessments, and identifies
shortcomings (hazards) develops actions to eliminate or control them. Ensures coordination with all
managers to ensure procedures are integrated into the decision making process to identify and
control hazards during maintenance operations.
Will also be responsible to:
1. Advises and assists the program manager on all safety matters, including: developing safety policy, developing safety goals, objectives, and priorities and integrating them into appropriate training guidance, while developing corrective actions/control options.
2. As a part of internal auditing procedures and quality assurance, the Safety Manager administers the Semi - Annual Survey; collects and disseminates results; monitors corrective action using a hazards log. Continually monitors the ability of each maintenance functional area to protect against aviation accidents.
3. Advises the program manager when a below-standard status that affects safety is detected in any functional area. Assesses the program's risk management effectiveness and safety performance by: Collecting information about risk-management successes, shortcomings, and needed improvements; if the performance met the guidance (goals, objectives, and priorities), recommending corrective actions/controls to improve performance.
4. Monitors safety-related programs, including: observing flight and ground operations to detect and correct unsafe practices; conducting hazard analysis, prioritizing hazards in terms of accident severity and probability; conducting safety meetings quarterly; reviewing accident reports and helping to implement corrective measures; inspecting semiannually the physical condition of airfields, heliports, helipads, and tactical landing sites for hazards; maintaining accident-prevention and other appropriate safety literature and posters; monitoring techniques and proficiency of personnel in handling ammunition or explosives; petroleum, oil, and lubricants (POL); chemicals; hazardous and toxic materials.
5. Observes aviation maintenance operations, making recommendations to correct unsafe procedures and practices, managing an operational hazard report program and monitoring the foreign object damage (FOD) prevention program.
6. Monitors aviation life-support equipment (ALSE); hazard communication program.

Qualification
Certification from a recognized Aviation Safety Course; Accident Avoidance Training; Composite Risk Management (CRM) Training; and Hazardous Materials Training.
The candidate must possess a BA/BS degree preferably in management and must understand Army aviation maintenance programmatic.
Higher education in safety program management is preferred.
Experience
10 years experience in Army aviation, with five years in safety management field.
