Job Description

A position has arisen for an Associate Sustainability Consultant within our Sustainability team to join our Dubai Office.

Our Sustainability Consultants work across a broad range of consulting projects in the Middle East and internationally. The work delivered by the team relies on broad holistic and integrated thinking combined with strong and grounded knowledge around the built environment - underpinned by data, experience and informed analysis.

The Buro Happold Sustainability team is constantly developing and uses project-based and academic research to investigate and apply new concepts to promote healthy sustainable development. All employees engage in this innovation. Potential areas for future research include but are not limited to:

Understanding the efficacy of alternative approaches, Using emerging digital and automated technologies to collect and analyse primary and secondary data, Developing corporate and government policies/regulations, high-level and specialised modelling, Utilising recognised systems approaches.

Depending on your experience and skillset, you will sit within one or two streams of our sustainability capability however our approach acknowledges that supporting these streams often requires holistic and context-aware consideration of various factors, drawing on support from services around the following streams:

Energy and Carbon, Building Performance, Natural Capital, Climate Resilience, External Environments, Health and Wellbeing, Social Value, Circular Economy

To help drive our sustainability offering, we require ambitious and enterprising consultants to apply their skills to building and master planning projects. The consultant is not expected to be an expert but will have strong passion, broad interest, and specialist skills that complement the current team balance.

In this role, you will work as part of a close-knit team under our senior team members\' guidance while supporting the development of graduates and leading defined scopes of work and bids.

Your daily responsibilities are expected to comprise the following...
  • Sustainability project and service support
  • Task leadership and direction/mentorship of more junior team members.
  • Production of technical guidance and analysis to influence sustainability strategies.
  • Providing written comments and producing reports and presentations with excellent visual and grammatical quality.
  • Working as part of multidisciplinary teams (including, but not limited to attending meetings with architects, planners, government agencies and clients)
  • Formulating external presentations for outreach and business development purposes.

Our ideal candidate is expected to demonstrate the following...

You will be able to demonstrate a profile of:
  • Ideally some specialist knowledge in one or more of the following areas; Energy and Carbon; Building Performance; Natural Capital; Climate Resilience; External Environments; Health & Wellbeing; Social Value; Circular economy.
  • Ability to communicate in an effective and confident manner
  • Working knowledge of wellbeing and sustainable design techniques, analysis or modelling relevant to the construction industry or corporate strategies
  • Experience in undertaking technical analysis, and the development of suitable responsive strategies
  • Working knowledge of relevant UAE and KSA policies and regulations (or equivalent)
  • Experience producing high quality graphical and written outputs
  • Strong facilitation and team working skills and a drive to deliver outstanding results
  • Assessment system qualifications (e.g. LEED, Estidama, Mostadam, WELL) and evidence of practical competence of their application.
  • Exuding passion and enthusiasm for the built environment to support human outcomes and fair distribution of value
  • Relevant Degree in Engineering
  • Experience in the Middle East is essential.
  • A relevant Degree and or Masters
