About the Role

You will act as legal POC for Saudi Arabia and will contribute to a number of initiatives, projects on a number of multi-jurisdiction/regional matters which could, for example, include model changes, product rollouts. You will also work closely and support other lawyers on the team. In addition, you will have regional projects that you could either drive individually or together with others within the team. In combination, this will give you tremendous exposure to the business as well as various other teams across the Middle East.

What You'll Do

The work is diverse and is of varying degrees of complexity, it broadly falls into four areas: Regulatory: Reviewing laws (including drafts) which may directly or indirectly impact our operations or model; working closely with various teams (policy, tax, and the business) on submissions to regulators; interpreting laws and regulations and working with various teams to ensure compliance; meeting and drafting correspondence with regulators whenever the need arises. Commercial: Contracts with airports, business development deals including airlines, financial institutions, public sector. Product Reviews: reviewing new features (such as safety or fraud-related features), products (a new bus product) or apps (driver loyalty app); reviewing or creating the accompanying T&Cs; advising on how to best position/structure some of these products. General: managing risk, strategising with the business; spotting issues that may adversely affect our legal position; working with external counsel; reviewing communications that are sent out from Uber to driver-partners and/or riders; working alongside various other verticals within the larger legal organisation (including the legal payments team, privacy, compliance, and competition).

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of legal experience. The ideal background includes a combination of private practice and in-house experience with a large technology or consumer-facing company.
  • Highly motivated, creative, entrepreneurial, and laser-focused on the details; able to juggle multiple projects at a time in a fast-paced environment, while collaborating as a team to stay in sync and working independently to get the job done.
  • Strong academic credentials and a law degree from a top law school.
  • Fluent in written and spoken Arabic and English, and a crisp writing style.
  • Excellent business judgment and interpersonal skills (outgoing, down-to-earth, and with a good sense of humor).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in high impact and high profile situations.
  • Enthusiastic and knowledgeable about Uber.
