Art Teacher
Job Title: Art Teacher (K-12, specify level)
Reports to: Head of Fine Arts Department / Principal

Job Overview:
We are searching for a creative and passionate Art Teacher to cultivate a vibrant and inclusive visual arts program. The ideal candidate will inspire students to explore their creativity, develop technical skills, and gain an appreciation for art history and diverse artistic traditions. You will provide instruction in a variety of 2D and 3D media, guiding students in the creative process from conceptualization to final execution. The goal is to build students' visual literacy, critical thinking, and confidence in their artistic abilities.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Development & Instruction:
  • Plan and deliver a comprehensive, developmentally-appropriate art curriculum that introduces students to the elements and principles of art and design.
  • Teach a wide range of techniques and media, such as drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, and digital art.
  • Integrate art history and multicultural perspectives into lessons to provide context and inspire student work.
  • Guide students through the creative process, emphasizing brainstorming, sketching, experimentation, and reflection.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs and interests of all learners, from beginners to advanced students.
  • Assessment & Evaluation:
  • Assess student artwork based on effort, creativity, skill development, and understanding of concepts, using a variety of assessment methods (e.g., rubrics, critiques, portfolios).
  • Provide constructive and encouraging feedback to foster student growth and artistic confidence.
  • Curate and organize student art exhibitions within the school and potentially in the wider community.
  • Classroom & Studio Management:
  • Create a positive, supportive, and stimulating studio environment where students feel safe to experiment and take creative risks.
  • Manage and maintain art supplies, equipment, and tools, ensuring they are organized, accessible, and in good condition.
  • Enforce safety procedures for the use of art materials and equipment.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
  • Collaborate with other teachers to integrate art into interdisciplinary projects.
  • Communicate regularly with parents about student progress and upcoming art events.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and school-wide events.
  • Extracurricular & Professional Development:
  • Lead or advise an after-school art club or honor society.
  • Stay current with contemporary art practices and trends in art education by attending workshops and visiting galleries/museums.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Art Education, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Valid state teaching certification in Art (K-12).
  • Proven experience teaching art to the specified age group.
  • Strong studio art skills across a variety of media.
  • Excellent classroom management and organizational skills.
  • A genuine passion for art and a commitment to nurturing creativity in young people.
