Welder
Overall Purpose: To use specialized equipment to join and cut metal parts and components according to specifications for construction, manufacturing, and repair projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reading Blueprints: Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and sketches to understand project specifications.
- Welding Operations: Perform various welding processes such as SMAW (Stick), GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG), and FCAW to join metal components.
- Preparation & Setup: Prepare materials for welding by cutting, grinding, and cleaning. Set up welding equipment based on the material type and thickness.
- Inspection: Examine welds for bead consistency and ensure they meet quality standards and specifications. Check for defects and perform tests if required.
- Safety & Maintenance: Adhere to strict safety protocols to prevent injuries and damage. Perform basic maintenance on welding equipment.
- Certification from a technical school or apprenticeship program in welding.
- Proficiency in multiple welding techniques and processes.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and blueprints.
- Knowledge of different metals and their properties.
- Keen attention to detail and a commitment to safety (e.g., knowledge of PPE).
