  • Reporting to the SVP & Head of Sanctions, Financial Crime Compliance, and the main responsibilities of this role is to support the business areas covering Sanctions High Risk Advisory for the Group and ensure to factor sanctions evasion typologies while developing policies and procedures.
  • Act as the primary interface to the Trade Finance and Global Market Banking by supporting and advising on a range of Sanctions compliance matters.
  • Managing complex cases and manage investigations into suspected Sanctions violations/breaches.
  • Act as a back up to the other VPs in Group Sanction in providing services to all business lines in the UAE and FAB international offices, in coordination with International Compliance team
  • The role holder may from time to time be assigned to other managerial tasks within Financial Crime Compliance to support divisional requirements.
Job Specific Accountabilities
  • Sanctions High Risk Advisory must be able to build and maintain productive business relationships with regulators and management across the regions must have strong project management skills and the ability to work cross-functionally across the regions to effectively deliver the role purpose.
  • Support the SVP & Head of Sanctions – Financial Crime Compliance Management in performing the following:
  • To ensure robust and effective controls in place to manage regulatory and reputational risks related with trade as trade finance increasingly being used as a mechanism to facilitate financial crime.
  • Assess and provide advisory on the management and mitigation of financial crime risks with a particular focus on Sanctions.
  • Conduct research on sanctions evasion typologies and design controls to intercept such practices.
  • Provide Sanctions High Risk Advisory services to the UAE and international offices, in co-ordination with International Compliance team.
  • Lead and manage investigation on trade finance, identified in the Bank’s screening systems and ensure that correct decisions are reached and documented appropriately and timely.

  • Act as SME by providing timely and accurate Trade Finance and Global Markets related advisory to the different related business divisions.
  • To perform and support the FCC Enterprise Wide Risk Assessment (EWRA) exercise.
  • Maintain and build an effective relationship with the related divisions so that effective escalation of issues are achieved and risk managed.
  • Escalate to the SVP & Head of Sanctions any other sanction related matters that require further guidance in a timely and complete manner.
  • Assist with the development of new and innovative techniques and tools which will provide greater certainty in the Sanctions Unit’s ability to detect and report sanctions-related activities.
  • Recommend and execute on opportunities to evolve the sanctions program to meet local and global regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible to day-to-day management of Sanctions High Risk Advisory related queries received from relevant stakeholders within the Bank.
  • Execute other duties as directed by SVP & Head of Sanctions or by SVP & Head of Financial Crime Compliance.
Generic
  • Implement IA recommendations for findings against the Sanctions High Risk Advisory.
  • Participate in relevant financial crime related projects as per the project guidelines set by the Compliance Governance Department.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification Bachelor’s degree or higher in management, banking, finance, preferably with certification in compliance, AML/CFT, financial crime, risk management or internal audit. Legal background is a plus Minimum Experience
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of experience preferably in Compliance and/or Audit in a reputed bank
  • Excellent understanding of regional laws, applicable international regulations and sanctions evasion typologies
  • Excellent knowledge of the AML/CFT and Sanction applied on different business banking functions
  • Excellent project management skills with strong control
  • Strong interpersonal, people management and facilitation skills with good leadership skills
  • Ability to generate ideas, think creatively, develop innovative solutions and build effective business relationships quickly
