Job Description
The VP of Manufacturing Operations is the highest-ranking individual in the company’s production department. Overseeing all aspects of the manufacturing process, from sourcing raw materials and components to shipping finished products to customers. Ensuring that the manufacturing process runs smoothly, efficiently, and on budget. Duties also involve making plans for company growth and ensuring that the manufacturing operations can meet the demands of new clients. This role will involve negotiating with suppliers and partners to get components and raw materials that fit within the company’s budget. Must perform due diligence before partnering with new suppliers, as this individual is responsible for the failure and success of these partnerships. A vice president of manufacturing operations has the following duties and responsibilities:
- Developing and implementing manufacturing operations and processes to meet company plans, customers’ needs and quality standards.
- Ensuring that production goals are met by effectively managing the supply chain and the production partners.
- Conducting audits of suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure compliance with company standards.
- Create and execute policies and programs to maximize capacity and ensure high quality and low costs.
- Managing inventory levels to ensure adequate supply of raw materials and components.
- Develop and implement plans to enhance yield and maximize efficiency and productivity.
- Coordinating with R&D and product engineering to make design changes that will improve yield and efficiency of manufacturing processes.
- Coordinating with the VP of sales to ensure that production goals align with sales forecast and the demand for products.
- Develop an adaptable organization to handle new technologies resulting from manufacturing and supply chain perspective.
- Assess production financials and activity reports to measure productivity and determine cost reduction areas and work to enhance gross margins.
- Guarantee excellent communications in organization at corporate level with strong internal communication.
- Create production tracking and quality control systems and analyze productions to determine problems and suggest processing changes.
- Improve utilization of ERP system and establish consigned inventory programs with key suppliers.
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, industrial engineering or a related field.
- At least 10 years of experience in manufacturing management roles. Longer experience is preferred.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent project management experience and track record.
- A greater focus on Quality Control.
- Experience in manufacturing of optical and electronic systems. MEMS product experience is a plus.
- Demonstrated experience in manufacturing state of the art optical and/or sensing products is a plus.
