Vehicle & Equipment Painter
Overview:
A Vehicle & Equipment Painter applies primers, paints, and clear coats to vehicles and equipment, ensuring a high-quality, durable, and aesthetically pleasing finish. They are experts in color matching, surface preparation, and spray gun operation.
Key Responsibilities:

• Surface Preparation: Meticulously clean, degrease, sand, and mask vehicles and equipment to create an ideal surface for painting.
• Priming: Apply primer coats to protect bare metal and ensure paint adhesion, then sand the primer to a smooth finish.
• Color Matching: Use spectrophotometers and mixing schemes to create a perfect paint match to the existing color or new specifications.
• Spray Painting: Operate conventional, HVLP (High Volume, Low Pressure), or electrostatic spray guns to apply base coats and clear coats evenly.
• Baking/Curing: Use bake ovens or infrared lamps to cure the paint, ensuring hardness and durability.
• Polishing and Detailing: Buff and polish the painted surface to remove imperfections (like orange peel) and achieve a high-gloss finish.
• Safety Compliance: Strictly adhere to safety procedures when handling hazardous materials (paints, solvents) and operating within a spray booth, including using personal protective equipment (PPE).

Skills & Qualifications:

• Formal training in automotive painting or significant on-the-job experience.
• In-depth knowledge of painting techniques, paint types, and surface preparation.
• Skill in color matching and a keen eye for color and finish quality.
• Experience operating and maintaining spray painting equipment.
• Understanding of safety protocols for a paint shop environment.
