Typhoon Operations Manager Salary: Competitive Grade: GG11 Location: Taif, Saudi Arabia JOB PURPOSE BAE Systems is the UK Government's nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia. We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and train RSAF and Royal Saudi Naval Force personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment and weapons. The Typhoon Operations Manager is responsible to the Salam Typhoon Operations Manager for the day-to-day management of the following teams: Trails and Evaluation, Aircrew Equipment Assemblies (AEA), Helmet-Mounted Sub-System (HMSS), Engineering Operations and Flight Operations teams. The role is also responsible for coordinating operations service delivery with the Typhoon Ground Support Systems (GSS) team via the GSS Operations Manager, and the Fleet Management Advisory Service (FMAS) via Head of Typhoon Technical Support Services (TTSS). The Typhoon Operations Manager provides the primary customer interface for the Salam Support Solution (SSS) programme with both HQ RSAF Riyadh and King Fahad Air Base Taif, and is responsible for providing, advice and recommendations on all matters regarding Salam Flight Operations. The post holder also provides specialist advice on the RSAF Typhoon Fleet strategic direction and the future Salam strategy. The Typhoon Operations Manager deputises for the Salam Fleet Operations Manager when required. JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES Provide operations support to all three RSAF Squadron Commanders covering Maintenance Operations, HMSS, AEA, Trials Management & Planning, Tactical Data Link and Flying Programme co-ordination and execution. Facilitate and directly support the integration and deployment of the Salam operations service, through the RSAF Command Structure, the Integrated Logistics Operations Centre (ILOC) and Maintenance Operations Flight (MOF), the RSAF Training and Operational Squadrons and the Maintenance Organisations. Provide Salam headquarters support to the FMASS and GSS teams, in accordance with the Contractual Requirements of Annex B to Typhoon LOA 2 SoW, the RFL 47166-2 and the BAESSA M&CA Directorate Mandates. Define, present and distribute aircraft configuration standard to meet the requirements of the flying programme. Provide support to all Taif Operational & Management reviews. Build and maintain a constructive and trusting relationship with the RSAF Customer, MODSAP, RAF and Typhoon core programme personnel. Support and provide inputs to estimates at completion (EAC) process and on-going resource plans to meet the requirements of the Annex B to Typhoon LOA 2 SoW. Provide a structured training programme to support the development of RSAF Operations, HMSS and AEA staff, ensuring that competence is assessed on arrival and at least 2-yearly thereafter, in accordance with M&CA Mandates. Support on-going Engineering and Life Cycle Management activities including the definition of engineering change and capability insertion. Ensure all Operations, HMSS and AEA staff comply with formal SHE training. Develop and adhere to local SHE plans reporting on hazardous occurrences including accident /incident collation and reporting using the BAE Systems SORT and RSAF GS002, FS005 processes as appropriate. Working closely with the Director of Training to ensure the TySN training solution is fully supported as part of the Saudisation plan. Produce agree and maintain flying programmes for Typhoon aircraft at KFdAB in line with the contracted Baseline Flying Program (BFP). Provide frequent reporting to support key performance indicators for the Annex B to Typhoon LOA 2 SoW covering overall flying hours achievement and operational readiness. RECRUITMENT SPECIFICATION Essential Extensive proven relevant work experience of which extensive experience should be from a flying operation support environment delivering a fast jet performance based support contract, with emphasis on Operations Support In addition, extensive management experience of military aircraft maintenance Recognised Degree in engineering or aircraft maintenance, or an equivalent subject. Fluent in English. Desirable An understanding of RSAF operations and working practices. Computer literate with a sound understanding of the Microsoft Office suite Knowledge of export control requirements (ITAR/USEC). Experience of working in the Middle East and/or working with the RSAF RECRUITMENT Essential Business Management experience with a proven ability to lead the following areas: Contract Status Reviews (CSR), budgetary responsibility and accountability At least a Familiar level of knowledge of the Typhoon air system, including aircraft sub-systems and ground-based systems At least an Awareness level of knowledge of Approved Maintenance Organisation (AMO) capabilities, Continuing Airworthiness, Expositions and supporting procedures At least a Practitioner level of knowledge of the Salam contract, supporting requirements such as the RSAF Regulatory Framework for Logistics (RFL) and the Typhoon operations' environment A Practitioner level of skills in the management of aircraft operations, based upon a Practitioner level of experience in aviation operations. An understanding of Engineering Life Cycle Management (LCM), Project Management, Engineering Management, Systems Engineering, Safety Management, Export Controls, Financial, Commercial and Procurement processes. At least a Familiar level of managerial and leadership skills, in an aircraft operations' environment. An effective, highly credible communicator with strong interpersonal skills, including stakeholder management and the ability to influence decision-making. Experience of managing and negotiating contractual requirements and implementing programmes within the military/industry collaborative environment. Knowledge of and proven success in, the management of personnel development. Desirable An experienced Engineering LCM Assessor or Chairman. An understanding of M&CA Mandates and Engineering Policies. Broad aerospace and defence company / industry knowledge. Registered with a professional institute, related to the role.
