Role Summary
The Telecom Engineer will work closely with the Resident Engineer and multidisciplinary teams to supervise telecom systems including fiber optic networks, transmission systems, data, voice, and video networks. The role requires strong technical expertise, site supervision capability, and coordination skills to ensure seamless integration and successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Support and supervise telecommunications design review, installation, testing, and system integration activities
Review and recommend approval of FSDDs, shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, and test plans
Coordinate installation of fiber optic networks, ducts, handholes, cabinets, telecom rooms, active equipment, and power systems
Conduct routine site inspections to verify quality, safety, and compliance with specifications and standards
Witness FAT, SAT, OTDR testing, power testing, performance testing, and system integration testing
Supervise telecom system deployment, testing, commissioning, and handover activities
Manage punch lists and ensure timely closure of outstanding works
Maintain approvals, correspondence, change records, and photographic documentation
Support evaluation of variations, changes, and related claims
Review as-built drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, and final handover documentation
Inspect fiber splicing, terminations, labeling, and material installations
Coordinate with civil, electrical, ITS, and other discipline contractors to ensure interface alignment
Attend telecom coordination meetings, prepare minutes, and issue technical correspondence
Monitor site safety compliance and support corrective actions
Conduct final inspections and validate completion prior to handover
Candidate Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communications, Computer Engineering, or related field
Minimum 7 years of telecom engineering experience on infrastructure or large-scale construction projects
Strong knowledge of fiber optic networks including OSP and ISP, DWDM, SDH, and IP/MPLS
Experience with structured cabling systems and data, voice, and video networks
Proficiency in fiber routing, splicing, and OTDR analysis
Working knowledge of routers, switches, firewalls, and active network equipment
Understanding of telecom power systems, grounding, and earthing
Familiarity with local authority standards, approval processes, and regulatory requirements
Knowledge of network architecture and basic cybersecurity principles
Ability to interpret civil, electrical, and telecom drawings
Experience analyzing existing communication networks to identify integration points and upgrade requirements
Proficiency in CAD and network documentation tools
Strong coordination, communication, and documentation skills
Familiarity with Linux and Windows environments
Professional certifications such as CCNA, CCIE, RCDD, or CompTIA are an advantage
