Job Description

Role Summary
The Technical Design Manager will be the primary technical authority on the project, responsible for leading, coordinating, and managing the Civil, MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing), and Facade design disciplines. This role requires a deep understanding of each field to ensure designs are coordinated, buildable, compliant with codes, and aligned with the project's budget, schedule, and quality objectives. You will act as the crucial link between the design consultants, the project management team, and the construction team on site.
Key Responsibilities
1. Overall Technical Leadership:

  • Serve as the single point of contact for all technical design matters related to Civil, MEP, and Facade systems.
  • Lead the technical review and coordination process for all design packages, identifying and resolving conflicts between disciplines.
  • Ensure all designs comply with local authority regulations, international codes, and health & safety standards.
  • Manage the flow of technical information between the client, consultants, contractors, and internal project teams.
2. Civil Expertise:
  • Review and approve geotechnical reports, foundation designs, and structural drawings.
  • Manage the design of site works, earthworks, drainage, and utilities connections.
  • Coordinate with local authorities for approvals related to infrastructure and civil works.
  • Ensure structural designs are integrated seamlessly with MEP and architectural elements.
3. MEP Expertise:
  • Lead the coordination of all MEP systems (HVAC, Electrical Power & Lighting, Plumbing & Public Health, Fire Protection, BMS, ICT, Security).
  • Review MEP designs for efficiency, constructability, maintenance access, and compliance with project specifications.
  • Chair MEP coordination workshops and manage the clash detection process using BIM (Revit, Navisworks).
  • Oversee the selection of major MEP equipment and ensure its integration into the building structure.
4. Facade Expertise:
  • Manage the entire facade package, from design development and tender documentation through to fabrication and installation.
  • Review and approve facade system details, performance specifications (thermal, acoustic, water/air penetration, structural), and mock-ups.
  • Coordinate between the architectural intent, the structural support, and the MEP interfaces (e.g., for vents, louvers, and lighting).
  • Resolve complex technical challenges related to unique geometries, material interfaces, and waterproofing.
5. Project Management & Interface:
  • Develop and manage the technical design program to align with the overall project schedule.
  • Identify technical risks and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Review and advise on contractor and supplier technical submissions.
  • Provide expert technical support to the construction team during the build phase, resolving site queries efficiently.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, or a related field. A Master's degree or professional charter (PE, CEng, P.Eng., etc.) is highly preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 15+ years of experience in the construction industry, with at least 10 years in a senior technical management role on large-scale projects (high-rise, hospitals, airports, or large mixed-use developments).
  • Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering at least two of the three core disciplines (Civil, MEP, Facade) on a major project from concept to completion.
Technical Skills and Knowledge
  • Expertise in one, with strong working knowledge of the other two: Civil/Structural Engineering, MEP Systems, or Facade Engineering.
  • In-depth knowledge of international building codes and standards (IBC, ASHRAE, ASTM, EN, etc.).
  • Proficiency in BIM (Building Information Modeling) and clash detection software (e.g., Autodesk Navisworks).
  • Excellent understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing, and materials.
  • Strong skills in reading and interpreting complex architectural, structural, and services drawings.
Personal Attributes
  • Exceptional Leadership and Communication: Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and clearly communicate complex technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strategic Problem-Solver: Proactive and analytical approach to identifying and resolving design conflicts.
  • Highly Organized: Superior project management and coordination skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Negotiator and Influencer: Skilled at achieving consensus among different parties (consultants, contractors, clients).
What We Offer
  • A competitive salary and performance-based bonus.
  • A comprehensive benefits package.
  • The opportunity to work on a high-profile, landmark project.
  • A challenging and rewarding senior leadership role with significant autonomy.
