Team Leader - Civil ??
Job Title: Civil Team Leader / Civil Foreman
Department: Construction / Field Operations
Reports To: Project Manager or Superintendent
Job Summary:
The Civil Team Leader (or Foreman) directly supervises a crew of laborers and operators on a construction site. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for the safe and efficient execution of civil construction tasks, including earthwork, grading, utilities, and concrete work, according to project plans and specifications.
Key Responsibilities:

• Crew Management: Lead, direct, and motivate a field crew. Delegate tasks, provide clear instructions, and ensure crew members have the tools and materials needed to perform their work.
• Field Execution: Oversee daily construction activities such as excavation, trenching, backfilling, compaction, pipe laying (storm, sewer, water), forming, pouring, and finishing concrete.
• Plan Interpretation: Read and interpret site plans, grading plans, utility plans, and specifications to guide the crew's work and ensure compliance with design.
• Quality Control: Perform regular inspections of work in progress to ensure it meets quality standards, grade stakes, alignment, and specifications.
• Safety Enforcement: Conduct daily toolbox talks and safety meetings. Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, including trench shoring, PPE use, and equipment operation standards. Maintain a safe and clean work site.
• Equipment Coordination: Coordinate the use of heavy equipment (excavators, bulldozers, loaders, compactors) and operators to maximize productivity.
• Communication: Act as the primary point of communication between the crew and the Project Manager/Superintendent. Report on daily progress, issues, and manpower needs.
• Problem-Solving: Resolve day-to-day issues in the field, such as unforeseen site conditions or material delays, to keep the project on schedule.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Education: High school diploma or GED. Additional certifications in surveying, concrete, or safety (e.g., OSHA 30) are highly valued.
• Experience: Extensive experience (5-10 years) in civil construction. Proven experience in a lead or foreman role is essential.
• Technical Skills: Thorough knowledge of construction methods, materials, and equipment. Ability to read blueprints and perform basic surveying and layout (using a laser level, transit, GPS).
• Soft Skills: Exceptional leadership and communication skills. Ability to command respect and lead by example. Strong organizational skills and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines. Decisive and proactive problem-solver.
