Sustainability Manager - Environmental | MAF Retail | Corporate Head Office
Role Summary:
The Sustainability Manager will be in charge of assisting in the day-to-day implementation of Majid Al Futtaim\'s Retail\'s sustainability strategy, with a particular focus on environmental initiatives (\xe2\x80\x9cRethinking Resources\xe2\x80\x9d pillar) that are vital to advancing the core business strategy. To design and deliver pertinent targets, policies, and guidelines, the role holder will collaborate closely with the Head of Sustainability and other senior members of the business, including VPs and C-suite executives. They will ensure successful execution of complex cross-functional projects, while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.

Role Summary:

Sustainability Strategy & Business Impact
- Support the Head of Sustainability on the development and implementation of the sustainability strategy for Majid Al Futtaim Retail, aligning with the Group\'s sustainability vision and strategy, Dare Today, Change Tomorrow.
- Collaborate with senior leaders, including VPs and C-suite executives, to ensure the strategy drives core business objectives, sales growth, and competitive advantage. Coordinate with country sustainability champions to ensure successful implementation at the country level.
- Manage budgets associated with sustainability initiatives and projects, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and maximum return on investment.
- Collate the information required to support the delivery of the Group\xe2\x80\x99s Net Positive approach within Majid Al Futtaim Retail
- Drive renewable energy opportunities across markets and support the country maintenance, finance, and legal teams in executing solar energy projects.
- Support countries in calculating and reporting on their Scopes 1, 2, 3 greenhouse gas emissions, in line with the company\xe2\x80\x99s Science Based Targets (SBTs) commitment.
- Dive deep into the environmental data, analyzing consumption trends, while identifying anomalies and gaps. Measure and report against consumption reduction targets.
Sustainable Fit-Out and Construction
- Ensuring that all new fitout developments at Majid Al Futtaim Retail achieve a \xe2\x80\x9c5-Star\xe2\x80\x9d rating under Majid Al Futtaim\xe2\x80\x99s Green Star Certification System, in line with the company\xe2\x80\x99s Sustainable Fit-Out Policy.
- Enforce the \xe2\x80\x9cRetail Sustainable Fit-Out Policy\xe2\x80\x9d, updating the requirements as needed. Contribute to the development and update of the Group-wide \xe2\x80\x9cNear Zero Policy\xe2\x80\x9d.
Circular Economy
- Drive the implementation of the Group-wide Circular Economy strategy in close coordination with different corporate functions and with the relevant teams across all countries
- Ensure a mechanism is in place to measure and record the operational waste (by weight) from each store across all countries (including food waste and packaging waste)
- Engage with business development fit-out teams to understand the main sources of construction waste management, and put a detailed roadmap to divert at least 75% of construction waste from landfills by 2025
- Work closely with the merchandizing team to assess the current packaging for Private Brand products, set ambitious targets to reduce amount of packaging (with a focus on plastic packaging)
- Engage with top suppliers to reduce their delivery packaging and product packaging.
Reporting, Communication, and Knowledge Sharing
- Assist the Head of Sustainability to provide regular updates on sustainability activity and progress to senior leadership, including the CEO, Retail Executive Committee, and Board of Directors.
- Assist in reporting quarterly progress against targets to the Group Sustainability team and external sustainability auditors.
Requirements
- A post-graduate degree in a sustainability or real estate-related discipline, e.g. electrical / mechanical engineering
- 5 years+ of relevant experience in a sustainability related role in a corporate organization or consultancy
- Knowledge of the real estate industry and the built environment
- Advanced knowledge of MEP systems (Mechanical, Electrical, & Plumbing) and renewable energy technologies (solar power)
- Technical sustainability skills e.g. green buildings, carbon management, health and wellbeing
- Basic knowledge of data management (collection, analysis, identifying anomalies)
- Strong project management & organizational skills in order to manage program of work with internal and external partners
- Excellent communication skills in writing and in person in order to engage staff internally
- Certified sustainability related professional e.g. CMVP or CEM, LEED AP, TRUE Zero Waste Advisor
