JOB PURPOSE:

To lead a team of shift employees in the assigned Pot Room to ensure that all scheduled activities are completed in a timely and safe manner in order to achieve the predetermined targets of producing molten aluminium in accordance with the required quantity and appropriate purity level.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Ensures that all scheduled and unscheduled tasks are completed in the allotted time of his shift working hours. Ensures that all pots in the Pot-Room are operating efficiently by constantly monitoring the targets for key operating parameters such as current efficiency, Line amperage, metal purity, bath temperature so that metal production targets are achieved within the budget limits. Has the capability to use PCU/DCCU/PLC, metal/bath measuring rods, Volt meter, metal tapping ticket printer, and any other tool or equipment related to Potroom operation. Proficiently uses iRPMS, iPOTS to take appropriate actions to achieve better productivity and process efficiency. Ensures that EHS procedures and policies are complied in order to minimize work place accidents, injuries, health hazards and emissions are controlled and related costs are minimised. Ensures all Potroom equipment is in a safe and good operating condition. Report any breakdown immediately to maintenance so that remedial work can be carried out promptly. Encourages his team to effectively participate in continuous improvement programs like Suggestion Scheme and work towards a more efficient, safer and profitable operation. Identifies unsafe acts/conditions in the work area, takes action to eliminate/control the hazards to avoid incidents/injuries to personnel and correct unsafe acts or conditions aiming to achieve zero LTI. Ensures that all personnel are fully aware of the comprehensive and integrated quality assurance system in accordance with ISO 9002. Ensures that metal is produced, tapped into crucibles and positioned ready for transportation to the Casting Operations on a timely basis during his assigned shift. Constantly considers the changing situations in other production areas of the plant of which is either a customer or a supplier, be aware of their problems and be ready to adjust the working schedules to meet any delays, which may arise. Ensures the development and training of staff in order to raise and enhance skills level in operational processes and conduct meetings on EHS procedures to promote a safe, healthy and environment friendly work place and minimize risks, accidents, health hazards and emissions in the area. Supports the company's Emiratization plan by ensuring the career development and training of all UAE national employees up to the set target. Works jointly with other departments and communicate all related issues that can improve the services for the smoother operation of the process. Carries out risk assessments, tool box talks, safety meetings, procedure audits, safety walkabout & incident investigations to assure safe working place. Sustains 3S & 5S standards to ensure time saving and good housekeeping within the department. Completes performance management documents within stipulated period for self and subordinates.

AUTHORITY/ DECISION MAKING:

Internal:

Conducts tool box talks with his team on daily basis. He also communicates with the Superintendent Potrooms and the in-coming and out-going supervisors to up-date them on the operating conditions, pot abnormalities etc. on a daily basis. He attends the Superintendent's meetings and shift group safety meeting as per schedule. Plans and approves his team absences such as annual leave as well as well to maintain his employees' timesheet and overtime entry. He may raise disciplinary actions against employees who are not performing tasks according to the Standard Operating Procedures. Raises ware house requests up to his level of authority. He is eligible to be the authorized person within Potrooms to issue "Permit-to Work" for maintenance jobs to be carried out by maintenance and contractors Communicates with all interfacing departments regarding material supplies, pot changes, EHS issues, maintenance problems, etc. Additionally, he interacts with Process Engineers and Process Technicians regarding Pot parameters, measurement results etc.

Decision Making:

The job holder uses his experience and skills as well as documented procedures in handling emergency operational abnormalities in pot operation which occur frequently in a pot line. He consults the superintendent in case of power reduction and power outages and takes appropriate actions to minimise loss of production and Pot performance. He takes line power outage in case of any immediate risk to plant security or safety of personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

Minimum Qualifications:

Science Graduate or 3 years Technical Diploma.

Minimum Experience:

7 years' experience in Aluminium industry or 5 years in a supervisory position preferably in Aluminium Industry.

Skills:

Good knowledge of Pot operation in order to run all pots smoothly with the help of computer control. Supervisory and interpersonal skills. Good knowledge on Potroom tools and equipment and in their operation. He must be fully conversant with all aspects of the job which includes an overall understanding of the processes involved. He must be mathematically competent. Must be proficient in English Language. The job holder must be able to prepare and complete production and shift reports in the English language. He should be familiar with the requirements of Quality Management System as well Occupational Health and Safety Management System with respect to his work. Ability to read and follow technical drawings. * Use of standard computer programs like MS Office.
