Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities of a Structural Design Engineer1. Design and Analysis

Prepare structural designs for buildings, bridges, industrial facilities, and other structures in compliance with relevant codes and standards (e.g., ACI, AISC, BS, Eurocode). Perform structural analysis (manual and software-based) to ensure safety, serviceability, and cost efficiency. Select appropriate construction materials (concrete, steel, timber, etc.) based on project requirements. Develop innovative design solutions while maintaining sustainability and cost-effectiveness.

2. Drawings and Documentation

Prepare detailed structural drawings, calculations, and specifications. Review and approve shop drawings submitted by contractors. Coordinate with drafting teams to ensure accuracy in design drawings. Maintain design documentation and ensure timely submission to authorities/clients.

3. Coordination and Collaboration

Work closely with architects, MEP engineers, and project managers to ensure designs are aligned with overall project requirements. Liaise with contractors and site teams to resolve design-related queries. Collaborate with geotechnical engineers for foundation and soil-structure interaction analysis. Attend design coordination and progress meetings with stakeholders.

4. Site Support

Provide technical support during construction and ensure that work is executed as per design. Conduct site inspections to check compliance with structural drawings and specifications. Address and resolve site-related structural issues promptly.

5. Compliance and Quality Control

Ensure all designs comply with local regulations, building codes, and safety standards. Perform structural audits and risk assessments. Ensure quality assurance in design deliverables. Keep updated with new technologies, materials, and software in structural engineering.

6. Project and Team Responsibilities

Estimate structural material quantities and provide inputs for cost estimation. Support project planning by providing realistic design schedules. Mentor and guide junior engineers and drafters. Contribute to value engineering and design optimization.
