Strategy Director - Renewable Energy (Africa Focus)

Our client, a fast-growing player in the African renewable energy landscape, is seeking a high-calibre Strategy Director to lead and shape the strategic direction of their energy portfolio across the continent. This is a senior leadership opportunity for an individual who combines deep sector expertise with strong commercial and analytical capabilities.
Role Overview
The Strategy Director will drive the strategic development of renewable energy initiatives, identifying opportunities for growth, structuring partnerships and investments, and establishing a strong market position across Africa. This role requires a seasoned professional able to operate at both strategic and execution levels.
Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive IPP strategy for key African markets, covering solar, hydro, wind, biomass and other technologies.
• Design and lead a cohesive commercial strategy aligned with organisational objectives.
• Conduct in-depth market studies, competitive intelligence, and country risk assessments in coordination with regional Business Development teams.
• Identify, assess, and structure investment, partnership, and acquisition opportunities.
• Monitor regulatory developments, public policies, and sector dynamics affecting renewable energy across the continent.
• Represent the organisation to external stakeholders including governments, donors, institutions, and strategic partners.
• Track and report strategic KPIs to senior leadership.

Candidate Requirements

• Master's degree in business, engineering, political science or related discipline (MBA preferred).
• Minimum of 10 years' experience in strategy, consulting, project development, or M&A within the energy sector.
• Strong understanding of African markets, regulatory environments, and infrastructure challenges.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multicultural and complex environments.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and writing skills.
• Fluency in French and English; additional languages such as Arabic or Portuguese are an asset.
