Job Description

Job Summary:
The Steward is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen, dishwashing areas, and food service equipment. They ensure all dishes, utensils, and cooking tools are properly cleaned, stored, and ready for use. The Steward also assists in waste disposal, inventory management, and supporting kitchen staff as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Cleaning & Sanitation:

• Wash dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, and pans by hand or using dishwashers.
• Ensure all kitchen equipment and work areas are cleaned and sanitized.
• Sweep and mop floors, empty trash bins, and maintain a hygienic environment.
• Clean and sanitize food preparation stations, storage areas, and dining spaces.

2. Equipment & Inventory Maintenance:

• Inspect and report damaged or malfunctioning kitchen tools and equipment.
• Assist in organizing and storing cleaned items properly.
• Monitor and maintain cleaning supplies, reporting shortages to supervisors.

3. Waste Management:

• Dispose of kitchen waste safely and in compliance with health regulations.
• Separate recyclable materials and ensure proper waste disposal procedures.

4. Support to Kitchen Staff:

• Assist chefs and cooks with basic food prep tasks when needed.
• Transport food supplies, equipment, and utensils as required.
• Help with banquet and event setup/breakdown.

5. Compliance & Safety:

• Follow health and safety regulations (HACCP, OSHA, etc.).
• Wear protective gear (gloves, aprons, etc.) when handling chemicals or waste.
• Report any safety hazards or sanitation issues immediately.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
• Experience: Previous experience in stewarding, dishwashing, or kitchen support is a plus.
• Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long hours, lift heavy items (up to 50 lbs), and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Attention to Detail: Ensures cleanliness and proper sanitation standards.
• Teamwork: Works well with kitchen and service staff.
