Clinical
  • To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own work and to ensure a high standard of clinical care for patients under one's care and support other team members to do likewise.
  • To maintain and update professional knowledge and skills to screen, assess and treat patients with communication and swallowing disorders.
  • To undertake a comprehensive, highly specialist communication and dysphagia assessment of patients across the age continuum, including those with the most complex presentation, using advanced investigative and analytical skills.
  • To ensure that methods of assessment and treatment are used for patients with communication and swallowing disorders are according to evidence-based practice and in compliance with the institutional policies.
  • To use advanced clinical reasoning and a wide range of treatment skills and options to formulate individual management and specialist treatment plans, in agreement with the patient where appropriate
  • If the SLP has a dual qualification that includes Audiology he / she may screen, evaluate the hearing status of the residents.
  • To develop and implement linguistically and culturally appropriate strategies and tools to work with patients.
  • SLPs must engage in at least the following appropriate strategies to manage Arabic first language speakers:
  • demonstrate knowledge and skill sufficient to analyze and manage phonetics, linguistics and social use of the Arabic language parameters (dialectically relevant to at least Emirati national citizens);
  • engage the services of a suitably trained translator.
  • To work with members of the multi-disciplinary team, to ensure optimal outcomes for the patient.
  • To provide advice, guidelines, and instruction to other team members, patients, and carers regarding the best communication, swallow and/ or feeding methods for the patient.
  • To communicate effectively with patients and carers, whilst addressing cultural, religious and language barriers, to maximize rehabilitation potential, to ensure understanding of condition and address anxieties and concerns. Communication skills of persuasion, motivation, explanation, and gaining informed consent will be used with a wide variety of patients.
  • To be flexible with scheduling and be willing to work across business units of Americare as per the clinical / staffing needs.

Qualifications: 8. QUALIFICATION, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL PREFERRED
Education xc2xb7 Bsc Degree in Speech And Language Therapy xc2xb7 Msc. In Speech And Language Pathology
Experience xc2xb7 Minimum of 3 years of work experience xc2xb7 Minimum of 5 years of work experience in a medical set up
Certification and Licensure xc2xb7 Member of own countries professional body e.g. ASHA xc2xb7 Additonal discipline specific certifications
xc2xb7 DOH licensure
Job Specific Knowledge and Skills xc2xb7 Effective verbal and written communication skills with the English language. xc2xb7 Highly developed communications and interpersonal skills, working with diverse population.
xc2xb7 Appropriate knowledge of speech language evaluation and treatment techniques to manage the rehabilitation population. xc2xb7 Proficiency in the Arabic language
xc2xb7 Knowledge and experience in working with tracheostomized and preferably ventilator dependent individuals. xc2xb7 Work independently, be self-directed and contribute as a member of a team.
xc2xb7 Effective problem solving skills for speech language evaluation, interpretation, treatment planning and execution taking into consideration patient's age, psychosocial, cultural and religious background. xc2xb7 Anticipates challenges and develops and implements strategies for addressing them.
xc2xb7 Basic skills in teaching other and self assessment of learning needs, strengths, and professional goals. xc2xb7 High level of service delivery. Demonstrate initiative with ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and adapt to changing situations.
xc2xb7 Safely execute all job responsibilities without risking injury to self or patients. Demonstrates the ability to assess and interact with patients and families using the theories of human growth and development, family systems, and cultural background. xc2xb7 Attention to detail.
xc2xb7 Computer proficiency required. Microsoft office applications preferred with ability to learn new software.
xc2xb7 Maintain variable work schedule depending on hospital/program needs to provide patient care (evening, holidays, weekend and travel).
