The Orthodontist is responsible for diagnosing, preventing, and treating dental and facial irregularities. This role involves the design and implementation of corrective appliances such as braces, aligners, and retainers to ensure proper alignment of teeth and jaws. The Orthodontist works closely with general dentists and other specialists to deliver comprehensive oral health care to patients.
Key Responsibilities:
Examine patients and assess dental and facial structures through clinical evaluation and diagnostic tools (e.g., X-rays, dental impressions, photographs).
Develop individualized treatment plans to correct malocclusions and align teeth and jaws.
Design, fit, adjust, and monitor orthodontic appliances including braces, clear aligners (e.g., Invisalign), expanders, retainers, and headgear.
Educate patients and/or guardians about treatment plans, oral hygiene during orthodontic care, appliance care, and expected outcomes.
Monitor and document patient progress throughout the treatment cycle and adjust plans as needed.
Collaborate with general dentists, oral surgeons, periodontists, and other specialists as required.
Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and confidential patient records and treatment documentation.
Ensure compliance with all health and safety standards and regulatory requirements.
Stay current with advancements in orthodontic techniques and technologies.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Dentistry (BDS, DMD, or DDS) from a recognized institution.
Postgraduate specialization in Orthodontics (MDS or equivalent).
Valid license to practice as an Orthodontist in [insert country or region, e.g., UAE DHA/DOH/MOH license].
Proven experience in orthodontic treatment and appliance management.
Excellent manual dexterity and precision.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with digital orthodontic systems (e.g., iTero, 3Shape).
Proficiency in clear aligner systems (e.g., Invisalign, ClearCorrect).
Patient-focused with a commitment to delivering high-quality care.
Ability to manage patient expectations and build rapport with both adults and children.
