Special Educational Needs Coordinator (sendco)

UAE, United Arab Emirates

Job Description

Kent College Dubai Kent College Dubai (KCD) opened its doors in August 2016, and in a very short space of time has established itself as a successful community-centred school that is inclusive and aspiring. The school takes pupils from ages 3-18, and is located in the Nad al Sheba district of Dubai. We are closely tied to our sister school Kent College Canterbury in many ways, and our mission is to re-vision the same quality of education \xe2\x80\x93 pastoral and extra-curricular as much as academic \xe2\x80\x93 that the UK school provides. We set much store by the attributes of our own Learner Profile, through which our pupils aspire to key qualities and values that will help them deal with the challenges of the lives that lie ahead of them. Team working, problem solving and independent thinking are given a high status in school life, in order to build pupils\xe2\x80\x99 self-confidence and leadership skills. Our competitive House system underpins many school activities and events and gives pupils an additional sense of identity and loyalty. With our first formal inspection completed, and in our 7th year operation, we offer a full range of GCSE and A-level subjects and our pupils have already achieved very impressive GCSE and A-Level results. Curriculum At Kent College we follow the British national curriculum, through to GCSE and A-level. We also run the IBDP programme in the 6th Form, as is offered at our sister school at Canterbury. Arabic and Moral Education are also core subjects in the curriculum across the age range, and we place a very high priority on the extra-curricular programme that complements the academic curriculum. Creative arts We also recognise the powerful influence that the creative and performing arts have on a pupil\xe2\x80\x99s personal development, and know that they help to complete the circle of experience and self-confidence that we look for in all our pupils. In the school\xe2\x80\x99s impressive Sir Tim Clark Auditorium concerts and drama productions involve performers across the whole school from Year 3 to Year 13, delightful year group productions in the Junior School reveal the talents of the future, and our dancers impress audiences with their confidence and musicality. Art and Design Technology are also given a high profile, and the work on display around the school proclaims the quality of teaching and the pupils\xe2\x80\x99 ability. Sport The school competes in the Dubai schools leagues in a wide variety of sports, and our teams have been very successful from the outset. We enjoy a very high level of participation in team sports by all our pupils and strongly encourage all our teaching staff to give a lead and contribute by coaching or supporting the extra-curricular programme. Community The school is located next to the Meydan South housing development, and as a result we probably have the highest proportion of pupils in Dubai who walk or cycle to school. We have a reputation as a family-focused school that cares about its community, and we and our Parents and Friends Association put on regular events to include the wider community. Application requirements KHDA, the Dubai education authority, requires us to employ teachers with a teaching qualification and a degree in their specialist subject. As a British Curriculum school, we normally expect applicants to have a British or Irish teaching qualification and/or experience of teaching in the UK: we expect new members of staff to adapt quickly to the education environment of Dubai, so they must be already familiar with the curriculum that they will be delivering. Passion, creativity, engagement with the school\xe2\x80\x99s values and a strong sense of fun are key qualities that we are looking for. We would also like you to have at least 2 years teaching experience. Remuneration We aim to attract and retain staff of the highest quality primarily because the school is a fulfilling and enjoyable environment in which to work. We aim to provide professional development opportunities to match the needs and aspirations of each individual member of staff, and to make sure that our pupils are taught by motivated teachers who are fully up to date with their teaching methods and approaches. As well as this, the school offers its new teachers a two-year contract, competitive tax free salary that includes an accommodation allowance, medical insurance, annual travel allowance, schooling at KCD for two dependents and an end of service gratuity. Kent College Dubai is an equal opportunity employer and as such treats all job applicants and staff with equal respect free from unjustifiable discrimination. Kent College Dubai is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all its students. A UK enhanced DBS or equivalent police check is a prerequisite for all appointments.
