The Sofa Tailor is responsible for accurately cutting and stitching fabrics or leather covers for sofas and other upholstered furniture based on design specifications. The role requires skill in operating industrial sewing machines, attention to detail, and a good understanding of upholstery patterns and measurements.
Key Responsibilities:1. Fabric Stitching:
Stitch sofa covers (fabric or leather) according to given patterns and measurements.
Ensure seams are neat, strong, and professionally finished.
Work on various styles such as loose covers, fixed upholstery, tufting, piping, etc.
2. Pattern Cutting:
Measure and cut fabric or leather based on templates or customized dimensions.
Match patterns (e.g., stripes, florals) for visual alignment on cushions and frames.
Minimize fabric waste by optimizing layout and cutting techniques.
3. Machine Operation & Maintenance:
Operate industrial sewing machines (single-needle, double-needle, overlock, etc.).
Perform basic maintenance on sewing equipment to ensure smooth operation.
Report machine breakdowns or technical issues to the maintenance team.
4. Quality Control:
Inspect stitching work for accuracy, durability, and aesthetics.
Correct or report any stitching or fabric defects immediately.
Follow quality standards as defined by the production team or client requirements.
5. Collaboration & Workflow:
Coordinate with the upholstery and cutting team to ensure timely production.
Follow instructions from the tailoring supervisor or foreman.
Maintain records of completed work when required.
6. Safety & Cleanliness:
Follow all safety protocols when handling sharp tools and machinery.
Keep workstations clean and organized.
Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
