Role Summary
The Smart City Systems Specialist is responsible for enabling smart city solutions by coordinating ICT designs, integrating digital platforms, and supporting connectivity across IoT, utilities, mobility, public safety, and urban services. The role works closely with multidisciplinary teams, telecom operators, and authorities to ensure reliable, secure, and future-ready smart city systems.
Key Responsibilities
Translate smart city solution requirements into functional and performance specifications
Ensure alignment between smart city platforms, applications, and field-level connectivity
Identify optimal locations for sensors, gateways, and edge devices to ensure network reliability
Coordinate, review, and validate ICT and communication designs supporting smart city solutions
Ensure compliance with GCC telecom regulatory authorities and national ICT policies
Coordinate with licensed telecom operators for connectivity approvals and system integration
Support regulatory submissions, approvals, and compliance documentation
Act as a systems advisor to internal teams and clients on smart city and digital infrastructure topics
Support technical workshops, design reviews, and stakeholder alignment sessions
Define connectivity requirements for smart city use cases including IoT, surveillance, mobility, utilities, environment, and public safety
Review and assure fiber, wireless, and IoT network designs for scalability, resilience, and security
Support smooth transition from implementation to operations
Candidate Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Telecommunications, Computer Engineering, or a related field
More than 5 years of experience in systems engineering, ICT, communication networks, or smart city-related roles
Hands-on experience supporting smart city, digital infrastructure, or IoT-based projects
Strong understanding of ICT architectures, standards, and system integration concepts
Ability to collaborate effectively with ICT specialists, designers, and field teams
Preferred Experience
Specialization in fiber networks, wireless networks including LTE and 5G, IoT connectivity such as LoRaWAN or NB-IoT, or cybersecurity
Experience working on government or city authority projects within the GCC
Conceptual understanding of network security, resilience, and high-availability systems
Familiarity with GCC telecom regulations and ICT compliance requirements
