Job Description

Basic Function

The Geotechnical Site Manager leads and manages all fieldworks from onboard the vessel. The role ensure projects are executed in accordance with contract requirements and the operational plan defined by the project manager.

1.Primary Duties and Responsibilities

1.1 Operations

a) Assist Project Manager in preparation and approval of project documentation.
b) Assist project manager and project controller with preparation of project Earned Value Analysis and participate in management assignment of resources to achieve optimal business value
c) Manage relationship and expectations of client representative onboard the vessel to ensure the project achieves optimal HSSE and operational performance and alignment with the operational strategy
d) Plan and coordinate fieldwork logistics working with all departments onboard the vessel and supporting onshore. This includes preparing and leading port call plans in cooperation with the Project Manager.
e) Lead and direct the geotechnical team on board in coordination with Drilling Supervisor during the field operations. Ensure the project is performing in accordance with the Company\xe2\x80\x99s contract and to liaise with the Client\xe2\x80\x99s representative onsite regarding operational matters.
f) Verify all required equipment, consumable are onboard, operational and calibrated.
g) Provide guidance and coaching to the team onboard and assigned junior staff.
h) Ensure soil samples are stored and handled properly by with minimal disturbance and when necessary lead geotechnical engineers or technicians to prepare geotechnical reports onboard the vessel.

1.2 Specific Additional Duties

a) Actively participate in adherence to and improvement of the company Management System on Quality and HSE related issues.
b) Identify use of additional PPE.
c) Conduct project Safety Leadership briefings including project specific HSE and operational plans. Perform daily safety meetings with all leaders onboard and prepare the daily minutes and Daily Progress Reports
d) Instruct and lead field staff on accident / incident reporting.

2. Principal Working Relationships
a) Work directly with project manager and Client representatives
b) Liaise with Operations Manager and Drilling supervisor.
c) Work closely with QC Surveyor / Reports Co-ordinator and Chief Cartographer for timely submission of reports, where applicable.

Qualifications required:
a) M.Sc. or B.Sc. in engineering/geology or equivalent in education and experience.

Skills / experience required to do the job:
a) Min 2 years in site management and field leadership roles
b) Min. 5 years experience in marine geotechnical projects
c) Conversant with geotechnical equipment / software in use.
d) English language.
