Overview / Responsibilities:
Wood is currently looking for a Senior QA/QC Welding Engineer. This is a residential position in Dubai, with possible travel to Iraq for Business trips as and when required.

  • The Welding Engineer is responsible for driving the projects to deliver a quality service that achieves the Project requirements, Operations and complies with the relevant Company Specification, international/national codes, and standards.
  • This position reports directly to the Quality Discipline Manager taking day-to-day. The role is accountable for Welding, NDE and inspection activities, resources, systems and processes to support Procurement activities and Projects & Execution Planning activities.

  • Provide Quality oversight of Contractor/Supplier and their Sub-Contractor/Sub-Suppliers/Vendors ensuring they are aware of their roles and responsibilities
  • Perform as focal point for Welding and NDE matters and provide recommendations for improvement and corrective action as required.
  • Shall be responsible for all technical aspects of welding operations including supporting of development and qualifications of welding procedures, coordination with NDE subcontractors
  • Technical sound knowledge of all welding processes for industrial welding and in-depth knowledge of welding piping, Valves, Pressure vessels, process like cladding, weld overlay, hard facing and various types of materials
  • Conduct surveillance for Welding Procedure Qualification Testing, Welder Performance Qualification Testing welder and NDE qualifications of Contractor and Subcontractor activities
  • Provides verification of Shop/Site construction welding & NDE systems and procedures are implemented in compliance with the Project requirements and Quality Management Systems.
  • Monitoring and tracking of project deficiencies and reporting welding & NDE quality KPIs to the Project management team.
  • Work with the Company/EPC contractors to ensure their welding & NDE processes and plans are robust, fully documented and appropriately resourced.
  • Identify if gaps exist between the welding practices with site contractors and or contract scopes. Provide input to trouble shoot issues related to welding in consultation with Project Quality team.
  • Provide welding/metallurgical technical input to review the Nonconformance, Root Cause Analysis, Correction and Corrective actions and monitor welding rework as appropriate.
  • Executes significant design tasks with minimal supervision with respect to welding & NDE aspects.
  • Provide quality estimates for QA/QC project deliverables and inspection of procurement packages
  • Ensure implementation of risk-based audit programs. Participates in EPC Contractor\xe2\x80\x99s / Supplier\xe2\x80\x99s welding & NDE audit program
  • Plan and participate in External/internal projects and vendors/ suppliers audits
  • Conduct site quality welding surveillance visits, as required.
  • Provide Welding, NDE inputs to contract quality risk and Lesson learnt registers
  • Capture client feedback and monitor resulting improvement actions
  • Technical oversight of fabrication techniques and production welding, heat treatment -PWHT.
  • Review of weekly status report that details the welding production rates, NDE status, weld repair rates, and any nonconformance recorded by the quality assurance group for the vendors if available shall also be provided to COMPANY when requested
  • Broad fabrication experience essential and should having exposure to the piping, pressure vessels, equipment - Rotating and Static, storage tanks and pipelines.
  • Provide technical inputs and Review/respond to the technical queries/deviation requests, TBE, and non-conformance reports.
  • Participation in the KOM & PIM on post orders.
  • Review and approve necessary Contractors/Sub-Contractors, Vendors, and suppliers welding book WPS/PQR and welders Qualifications including ITPs and its associated procedures, as required by Project needs.
  • Ensure adequate and competent inspection resources are available to the projects
  • Coordinate vendors/suppliers for inspection activities
  • Review inspection report outputs and highlight areas of concerns
  • Liaise with Discipline Engineers regarding inspection queries, deficiencies & punch list items
  • Daily/weekly/monthly coordination with the Project management team/Company/ Contractor/Supplier and their Sub-Contractor/Sub-Suppliers on the welding and Quality front
  • Support the review of manufacturing records books, as required
  • Dedicated to the delivery of exemplary safety performance.
  • Ability to work in an integrated multi-cultural team.
Skills / Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications:
  • Degree in Welding Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering.
  • International Welding Engineer (IWE) by IIW (International Institute of Welding)
  • Welding inspector certification preferably CSWIIP 3.2 or equivalent (AWS CWI/SCWI).
  • NDT Level-II (RT, UT, PT, MT, AUT),
Minimum Experience:
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience within the welding industry ideally oil and gas.
  • Previous Experience in Procurement support activities in EPC/PMC projects.
  • Middle East experience preferred
  • Familiar with International codes including ASME, API, ASTM, NACE, BS/EN/ISO i.e ISO3834-2 and or ISO 14731:2006, ASME IX, API-1104 & AWS-D1.1
  • Exposure to ROO Contracts desirably but not mandatory.
  • Minimum 5 years\xe2\x80\x99 post qualification experience.
